Vanessa Williams will take on the role of queen of fashion Miranda Priestly in the London West End stage adaptation of “The Devil Wears Prada.”

“The Devil Wears Prada” is a new musical based on the hit 2006 film and bestselling 2003 novel. It features an original score by Olivier and Tony Award winner Elton John (“Tammy Faye,” “Billy Elliot: The Musical,” “The Lion King”), direction and choreography by three-time Tony Award winner Jerry Mitchell (“Kinky Boots,” “Legally Blonde,” “Pretty Woman,” “Hairspray”), lyrics by singer-songwriter Shaina Taub (“Suffs”) and book by Kate Wetherhead (“Ever After,” “Submissions Only”),

Some are just straight up plays. But this lends itself well to a musical. And musicals make more money when they're successful.

I can’t think of any other than that straight play for Harry Potter and Stranger Things. 
 

But, for a film like this, it would be amazing if it were just a play. Can you imagine the endless list of female actresses across the world who could play this part? It would make so much money and would last for a very long time. But now that it’s a musical, it limits that and the audience it reaches.
