Microsoft Doubles Down on Xbox | Exclusive Rumors Debunked, Next Gen, Diablo IV!

The recent rumors that plagued the internet last week of Xbox's demise have now been debunked. Xbox executives Phil Spencer, Sarah Bond, and Matt Booty:WAP: hosted a Business Update Event to discuss the future of the brand.

Rumors swirled last week, via a disgruntled former Microsoft employee, that Xbox would cease it's console business, go fully 3rd party with flagship titles such as Starfield and the highly anticipated Indiana Jones title coming to PlayStation this year, and that GamePass would be phased with recently acquired Activision/Blizzard titles not being released to the service.

Today, Xbox officials have shown the rumors were just that and in general, social media is calling last week's fiasco an embarrassing overreaction by the internet and competing console fanboys.

Highlights included:

- Microsoft not going fully 3rd-Party. 4 titles will be released to multiplatform (2 Live Service titles, and 2 smaller, indie titles)

- Starfield and Indiana Jones will remain exclusive

- Have now become one of the biggest publishers on any console (Minecraft, Activision, Bethesda)

- Activision Blizzard Titles officially coming to GamePass, beginning with Diablo IV next month.

- New current-gen Xbox hardware to be announced this holiday.

- The next Generation Xbox is already underway, to be the biggest technical leap the gaming industry has seen.

Looks like the rumor mill overreacted again:rogue:

Nothings changing, and Xbox's existence will just continue to make fanboys upset, it seems they are coming stronger and even better next gen :WAP: save Fable and PD for that next console thanks!

Not yet but there's clearly an internal struggle regarding Xbox exclusivity going on at MS, so we shall see how it all unfolds!

So did they say the 4 titles? ( cuz I'm sure the hi fi rush and Seas of thieves  rumors are true)

And new current gen hardware? I guess they are doing that upgrade that leaked on the merger papers from last year.

Yea, they are gonna break exclusivity for these four games and then that’s it… :ryan3:

If that ends up being true (it won’t be, why would they even go there in the first place if this isn’t the start of a new initiative) then they are backpedaling hard after seeing their wig get tossed around by the whole industry for the last two weeks

EDIT: also the op states that Starfield and Indiana Jones aren’t coming to PS5 when the article reads… “Spencer confirms that Starfield and Indiana Jones are not part of the first four games, but he doesn't rule out the possibility for these titles to arrive on PS5 in the future. "I don't think we should as an industry ever rule out a game going to any other platform," says Spencer in an interview with The Verge.”

Just not by enough apparently. Luckily this means both companies are readying for next-gen!

Definitely going to be Sea of Thieves, Pentiment, Hi-Fi Rush and another live service title. Phil stated this won't be a shift in strategy in exclusives for the brand, so those titles make sense. Sea of Thieves is really going to thrive :lakitu:

This is taken out of context. Sony lowered the estimated fiscal year sale of 25 million down to 21, and that's still more than ps4 best year. :rip:  outsold xtinabox series by almost 3:1 and sold 50 million units in a little over 3 years despite the supply shortage in its first years because of the pandemic. The PS5 being in its latter stage makes sense because ps1 and PS2 life cycles are 6 years, and PS3 and 4 are 7 years, following the trend, it has 2-3 years left.

Gamepass is a failure and stopped growing for a while now, even with games like Starfield releasing. They are releasing their games on PS5 to try and get some extra sales since they taught their audience that buying games shouldn't happen and they are already teasing a next gen console just 3 years after releasing 2 models that flopped.

He also didn't deny that Indiana Jones and Starfield won't be released on PS5 in the future. He just confirmed they won't be released now.

This means that PS5 is entering its 2nd half later this year...which it is. It's going to turn 4 years later in 2024 :rip:

Next gen for Sony will be 2028, with a PS5 Pro coming this year right when PS5's life cycle gets to half.

All Sony studios are hard at work on PS5 games as we speak.
