Got it. to be fair they were quite right about Russia's plans to invade Ukraine (which we laughed about it cause we didn't think it was going to happen) 1

Terylee Posted February 15 Posted February 15 Please don't tell me he is building a Death Star somewhere in space.
chessguy99 Posted February 15 Posted February 15 There is a ban on WMDs in space, backed by the UN. The treaty is one that was signed by the Soviet Union and Russia accepted after the breakup of the Soviet Union. One has to wonder if this is just subterfuge to change some Republican Senators and Representative minds on Ukraine aid.

Pendulum Posted February 17 Posted February 17 Wouldn't that be a threat to the aliens? What if they attack us in return?
Gottasadae Posted February 17 Posted February 17 I don't think they have a money and capability to do so but anyway, we need to be aware and prepared for any scenario
Phaunzie Posted February 20 Posted February 20 They really said in Tyra Banks voice, "WOGS (Weapons of Global Suffering) in SSPPAACCCEEE."

I'm pretty sure humans have been there not long ago and nuclear weapons in space is also not a new thing for Russia or the US. Quote Both the United States and Soviet Union briefly tested nuclear weapons in space before the ratification of the 1967 Outer Space Treaty, which bans the placement of nuclear weapons of any kind into orbit, as well as further nuclear detonations in space. A 1962 test by the United States, launched from Johnston Atoll in the Pacific Ocean, was particularly damaging. Exploding 250 miles into the atmosphere, the electromagnetic pulse destroyed electronics in Hawaii, disrupting telephone service there, and took at least a half dozen orbiting satellites out of the sky, and damaged others. https://www.nytimes.com/2024/02/17/us/politics/russia-nuclear-weapon-space.html https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Fishbowl This might also not be the first example of a nuclear weapon in space since the ratification of the 1967 Outer Space Treaty, although the altitude of the Vela incident is uncertain. Edit: according to some sources, the Vela incident was probably too low to be space explosion, so might not have been illegal under the 1967 Outer Space Treaty. however it would have in contravention of the Partial Nuclear Test Ban Treaty of 1963. Quote The Vela incident was an unidentified double flash of light detected by an American Vela Hotel satellite on 22 September 1979 near the South African territory of Prince Edward Islands in the Indian Ocean, roughly midway between Africa and Antarctica. Today, most independent researchers believe that the flash was caused by a nuclear explosion[1][2][3]—an undeclared joint nuclear test carried out by South Africa and Israel.[4][5] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vela_incident https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Partial_Nuclear_Test_Ban_Treaty https://foreignpolicy.com/2019/09/22/blast-from-the-past-vela-satellite-israel-nuclear-double-flash-1979-ptbt-south-atlantic-south-africa/
