Excellent album

OMG. I love her. I'm genuinely shocked to discover this thread exists and that Jessica is appreciated here. It's a good album but doesn't quite hit the peaks of her last two albums (on first listen).

i liked it straight away but i know someone who thought it was a bit too like the last one, i think the others have evolved her sound a bit more than this. but also, when they're 27 minutes long every time you can always stand a bit more of the same

it's been on repeat enough to say it really is AOTY. :jonnycat:

the way it's only 27 minutes yet it feels like a longer album (complimentary) because of the incredible atmosphere and the cohesiveness.:clap3:

Just bought my vinyl :jonny: after 10 or so spins this is probably my favorite album of hers, I disagree that she didn't evolve her sound very much on this album. The production on this album is so much more lush than on Quiet Signs, less sparse and introverted overall. Her discography is essentially flawless though, can't wait for the surprise AOTY nomination at the grammys :clap3:

this queen never disappoints since her debut. it's just pure magic what she does with a guitar and some chamber flourishes. no need to add more. beautiful and dreamy. i'm going back and forth between this and the broadcast demos this weekend. just pure beauty

ok, so i played them back to back this morning (didn't take long) and i think i was focusing more on the back half of the record, which is a lot more minimal and quiet signs sounding, and also just reacting to the idea i had that this would all basically be like world on a string, which i think is a slightly misleading single (this is so much a theme of this past year!).

idk if lush is the word i'd use (it's still very low key) but i think that bossanova percussion and more 60s pop sound on the 1st few songs definitely makes a big difference. and also, it's quite a bright album, more daytime coded in a sense, tho it's still giving a lot of (i cannot think of a better way to explain this) the vibe of seeing dust in the sunlight in an big empty room, i always feel that she makes quite lonely sounding records.

I'm sorry to the good sisses Mannequin P*ssy but I think Miss Pratt is overtaking them as my AOTY runner-up (my AOTY being All Born Screaming of course) with this album :jonny4:

this is my go-to album these days for whenever I need to feel grounded. right now I'm giving it its like 15th full listen as I walk home from my best friend's place. we had a lovely late night session at the gym, then we went back to his place and watched a scary movie (Cronenberg's The Fly lol) and then stayed up until the sun rose watching architecture and evolutionary biology videos on youtube… he knocked out and I'm kinda sleepy now so I'm walking across the city back to my flat. it's really a gorgeous morning in denver. I'm in the process of r̶a̶m̶b̶l̶i̶n̶g̶ recording my new EP and I'm making a lot of music that is kinda redolent of this album stylistically. I know a lot of songwriters are scared to listen to other artists during their creative processes, but I can't keep myself away from listening to the music I love! anyway. I'm gonna pass out right when I get home and then maybe I'll record more music later but this album is just such good company at this moment… vibing hard for sure :clap3:

this definitely finding its moment in the warm weather, giving off 'too hot to move' vibes on "by hook or by crook" esp
