swissman Posted February 28 Posted February 28 I'm very curious as to how people outside the US perceive this song. Seeing as cowboys/westerns and by extension county music is seen as the iconic image of America / its stereotypical genre, does that mean foreign countries where this song is doing so well are perceiving this as a sort of "campy" novelty song? Because where there's not already an affinity to country music (like Canada, Australia, Ireland to a degree), the genre won't have the same base of interest. I guess simply put it's just a great pop song that transcends genre and expectation of style appealing to certain markets. That's what happens when you know how to make music though, because the song really is quite simple in execution, but everyone involved clearly knew how to create it so that it doesn't feel cheap or like a parody, it's just effervescent and magical. 1

Germans LOVE a clap-along-song. They ADORE this type of sound. They don't like noisy songs or songs with a "weird" song structure, but rather "simple" songs with an easy song structure. There's a reason Helene and also EDM are so big here Edited February 28 by Kristie Kuwa 3

Listening to the acapella, the song is very much sonically genre-less. The foundation of the song (her vocals) are just plain catchy and feel good. It’s a universal song, which is crazy 2

I know this is not the exact same comparison, but Shania Twain's "Come On Over" is the biggest selling female studio album of all time. Only Whitney's "The Bodyguard" sold more, but that was considered a soundtrack. I know Shania had Rock/Pop versions of the album that performed well in Europe, but the foundation was still her country vocals. Universally-sounding country has the potential to be massive when done right. Beyonce made country work for her tone and sound. I do feel her album will be more experimental - hence why Texas was released to wheel the world in. 1
Saint James Posted February 28 Posted February 28 it would be very sad if this doesn’t get a video. it has a lot of potential for choreo and imagery. 1

I feel like international countries will always eat up stomp and holler songs with "hey, ho!" callbacks if they manage to get attention in those markets. I won't be surprised if they view the song in the lens of Lumineers - Ho Hey, OneRepublic - Counting Stars, Mumford & Sons - I Will Wait etc. those were all big hits. 4

cuteboyzay Posted February 28 Posted February 28 (edited) It’s literally growing like CRAZYYY everywhere else, especially on TikTok and Radio!!! I have no idea why Carnival is gaining like crazy. Especially since the song is just OK… because it sounds like already a lot of what Kanye has already done. Edited February 28 by cuteboyzay 5
cuteboyzay Posted February 28 Posted February 28 (edited) I’m so happy y’all are starting to be positive again about the success of this song! Like I said and a lot of y’all have already said, she’s simply doing AMAZING. The ORGANIC growth and success of this song globally is simply astounding. We haven’t seen sh*t like this especially from a Country song like… ever And the fact that she’s already nearly doing 6M a day and it’s only a Wednesday! And it’s getting even BIGGER on TikTok and Reels! Like she really is taking IT! I truly feel this song is gonna outlast Carnival and a loottt of the other songs on the charts, like I’m not even joking. Edited February 28 by cuteboyzay 6
Attaboy Posted February 28 Posted February 28 I HOPE there is a reason they are waiting to put up the pre-orders, i.e. an accompanying music video An album trailer, something idk. It's also weird she hasn't acknowledged the success of this song. Hoping for a big announcement 3
