I noticed that no one has mentioned the lyric "Ever since I went to Marfa, ain't no trouble in mind"  and realized she might be talking about her girls trip there in 2012. She post a lot of photos of the trip and seemed to have an amazing time.

AMERIICAN REQUIEM is, without a doubt, her best opening track ever but the way it builds up, the way it encapsulates the entire concept of journey this album contains, and finally - the way her vocals do things I thought I would never hear from her... all this talk about pushing boundaries feels not enough. Boundaries feel non-existent when you hear an anthem like this one

Y'all "Flamenco" has been on REPEAT for me all day!! Top 5 Vocal performance on the album for me. The last verse just does something to my soul! When she performs that live, I know I am going to cry on sight.

as someone who usually has a problem with a big number of ballads on an album, the ballads on here are some of the best songs of her career.

 

Protector, Daughter and Just for Fun are just... wow. I can't believe humans made this. THIS is art and music. It's so encouraging to have one of the biggest artist of our times be someone this creatively charged.

I was about to say the same... loving this song an unhealthy amount, especially because of the theme of feeling overwhelmed and the: "Time heals everything, I don't need anything" section. For some reason it always makes me think time will heal every single scar that this reality has except her as a person... like

Her voice, the way she sings... that makes Flamenco the best song on the album for me.

I am absolutely OBSESSED with this album. As a country music fan and Bey fan, it feels so made for me 

 

American Requiem is such an insane, brilliant opener. I can't get over how good it is. I literally just keep the album playing in order, on loop over and over. It's so perfect.
