Raphael Saadiq being the SOLE producer on Bodyguard is pretty wild. The only one Bey doesn't have a credit

I'm not surprised, I love Bodyguard but it doesn't really sound like a Beyoncé song

OMG... I just heard that "16 Carriages" also refers to her miscarriage - which preludes "Protector" & "My Rose" about Rumi & Sir. Y'alllll

I thought it was about her marriage. She's coming on 16 years of her marriage in a few days. Thinking of horse and carriages like for a wedding ? or the age she became famous (16)

So I admittedly was VERY taken back by the album on my first listen on Thursday, so I decided to take some time before I listen in full again.

Having done that now, I sadly still cannot say that I love the album. While there are some tracks I do absolutely adore, I find there to be some songs which are pure fillers and others that for lack of better words have far too much going on and should've never made it out of an experimental studio session.

I would have straight up removed the following songs:

Spoiler

- Spaghettii
- Desert Eagle
- Riiverdance
- II Hands II Heaven
- Tyrant
- Sweet Honey Buckin

And I consider the following ones just there/unneeded:

Spoiler

- Protector
- MY ROSE
- Jolene
- Flamenco
- Amen

As well, a big gripe I have is the interludes. They feel very out of place and forced, I mean it goes from Willie Nelson's KNTRY radio (which if she was gonna do this it should've remained there throughout the album and been introduced at the start) to random introductions and chopped n screwed samples.

But like I said there are songs I ADORE, the top 5 of which being:

Spoiler

- Levii's Jeans
- Blackbiird
- II Most Wanted
- Bodyguard
- Just For Fun

I would have to rate it a 7.1 overall. And it ranks 2nd last within her discography in my opinion (IASF being last). I will keep listening to it in full to keep giving it a chance.

II Hands II Heaven reminds me of Jealous older sister

II Most Wanted has grown on me SO much :jonny: at first I thought it was too Adult Contemporary for me but the melodies and lyrics are beautiful, I keep coming back to it

Today's Top 5

II Most Wanted

Jolene

Ya Ya

Tyrant

Sweet Honey Buckin

I feel like the Post Malone collab was unneeded, as well as Sweet Honey Buckin (sawry) that just dragged the album for longer than it should be. The Linda Martell section had YA YA, Riiverdance, II Hands II Heaven, and Tyrant. It was suffice there for the genre switchups. :celestial2:

I think it refers to her upbringing, wedding, miscarriages and more. The song is very ambiguous. I just never thought about the miscarriage angle until someone mentioned it. If you google, there is a lot of articles about it as well.

It's weird how much I needed to hear certain things and how this album came at the right time.  'Just For Fun' hit me like a truck last night, haven't cried my eyes out for a while bit that song did it

2 Hands 2 Heaven is a song that needs time. On first listen, I didnt even have any opinion on it and kinda forgot about it - it has now easily entered my Top5. Its almost like a spiritual moment on the album reminiscent of Dance for You on 4. Its extremely dreamy, dont rule it out yet.

In general, the songs grow quite a bit, so keep listening. I made my own playlist where I removed all interludes and tbh its been such a good album now

My favourite today. Lyrics are actually quite sad.

Globally down to #2 on the Global Artist Charts, but still #1 in the US and UK.

I dont wanna jinx it, but maybe (hopefully) the drop wasnt too bad today. I'd be more than happy with 45+ Mio today for the album, but let's see

Global artist charts in the key markets:

#1 USA (=)

#1 UK (=)

#1 Netherlands (=)

#1 Belgium (=)

#1 Switzerland (=)

#1 Sweden (=)

#2 Ireland (-1)

#2 Australia (=)

#2 New Zealand (=)

#3 Austria (=)

#3 South Africa (+1)

#4 Germany (=)

#7 France (-2)

#11 Brazil (-6)

Honestly doesnt look all that bad. Shes obviously losing steam in countries she wasnt a force to begin with, but in her key markets, shes still performing nicely. Hoping that the gap to Taylor is actually quite small and that Bey was closer to #1 than #3 in todays update

I hate that people get downvoted for sharing opinions... so childish.
