Klein Posted March 29 Posted March 29 So I've finally completed my second listen of Cowboy Carter. I did a first listen to get a general vibe of the album, and I dug a little more on the second listen. I was not very excited at the prospect of getting a country album from Beyoncé, since day 1 I heard about the rumors way back then. Texas Hold' Em really didn't help because I couldn't stand the song and felt like it was just pure cliché country, but I did love 16 Carriages so I was still intrigued to hear what the album would be like. I gotta say that THE works way better as part of the album than as a standalone song though. Congrats for that. Overall thoughts: the album is really great. I was shocked at how fast it went by. I was a little afraid of the length, because 27 tracks is a lot, but it was really enjoyable. I don't think the album lags at all. On the contrary, I think the album doesn't really start strong, but rapidly becomes better and better as I go through the songs. The second part of the album is a gag after another it's insane. The production is pristine all throughout the album, love it. Just like her voice obviously. I'm putting my opinion on each song in spoilers, to not take too much place on the page Spoiler I love the intro of AMERIIAN REQUIEM. The song overall is not my favorite, but it's an easy listen. I really like the « If that ain't country, tell me what is » line. Tell them *****. BLACKBIIRD is a good cover. I don't have much else to say. 16 CARRIAGES is where things start to pick up for me. I still love the song just as much as I did the first time I heard it. PROTECTOR is a beautiful song. I don't think it's more or less than that. It's just beautiful. TEXAS HOLD' EM, as I said earlier, was not my favorite standalone song. But it really works perfectly in context with the album, especially after the SMOKE HOUR interlude. Still won't be a song I choose to play randomly, but I will definitely never be skipping while listening to the album like I thought I would. BODYGUARD is the first song that sent me into the universe. WHY IS THIS SOOOOOOOOO GOOD?! This is going to be on replay for quite some time. The melodies are delicious and the production is gorgeous. Also her voice is incredible but that's an evergreen selling point so I'm not going to discuss it on every tracks. The DOLLY P/JOLENE is another complete and total slay. I knew she would be incredible on this song, and I definitely wasn't disappointed. She sounds INCREDIBLE. The transition is also perfect and I love that we're attaching the song to Becky, therefore tying this album to Lemonade. Like BODYGUARD, the JOLENE cover will be on heavy rotation. JOLENE also transitions very beautifully into DAUGHTER. The latter, just like PROTECTOR, is a very beautiful song, but no highlight. Though it's good because I needed a little break after the back to back slaps I just took. I completely understand the place of SPAGHETTII on the album, and why it was made… but it is not for me. It's the first real miss for me. It takes me out of the album… until the outro (I guess?) of the song kicks in and takes me back. ALLIIGATOR TEARS and JUST FOR FUN join the club of PROTECTOR and DAUGHTER. Good songs, that I listen all the way through with no intention to skip whatsoever, but that I would not necessarily want to listen to outside of the context of the album. It's easy listening but nothing stands out for me. II MOST WANTED… oh we're so BACK. The song is simply excellent. Beyoncé and Miley sound amazing together. LEVII'S JEANS is yet another clear highlight of the album. Post fits suprisingly very well on a Beyoncé album. The chemistry on both of these duets is really great. FLAMENCO has melodies for days. I don't know if it should be considered an interlude but I'm personally inclined to just consider it's a short song because it deserves more than interlude status. THE LINDA MARTELL into YA YA, into OH LOUISIANA… another gag on the album. Gag gag gag. Pure vibes and I love it. YA YA should have been the lead single instead of TEXAS HOLD 'EM imo. DESERT EAGLE is criminally short for how insanely good it is. Wtf ?! RIIVERDANCE, again a highlight. I love love love it. II HANDS II HEAVEN… probably my favorite song off the album. She has no business being this good. TYRANT is a banger. SWEET HONEY BUCKIIN' is the second miss on the album after SPAGHETTI for me. A bit sad it comes in the middle of so much crazy good songs. The second part of the song is better but still not for me. AMEN ties the album perfectly. What a way to end the album. I like all the interludes. You can sense a lot of work went into those so what else can we ask for? To conclude, congrats Beyoncé on yet another excellent album. The second half is crazy good. If there's any Hive kind enough to do it, I'd love someone to give me a better idea of what the songs are about generally, in relation to Beyoncé's life/experiences because I do love her music/shows, but never really cared about her outside of that. However, I feel like this album is one that get really enhanced when you have all the context. Clear highlights after two listens : BODYGUARD, JOLENE, YA YA, DESERT EAGLE, RIIVERDANCE, II HANDS II HEAVEN, TYRANT. 5

X~MoviePoP Posted March 29 Posted March 29 Really confused why mickey guyton wasnt mentioned at all in this album. She has been the face of black woman in country for a while 1

KingWitch Posted March 29 Posted March 29 Album is too long for me Her vocals are amazing in this but not her pulling a DC superbowl on Miley, i can barely hear her on the song 2

futuresuperstar2023 Posted March 29 Posted March 29 This is proof why artist needs to take their time while making an album. Bey delivered again. Bey album seems to get richer and richer. 2
Pillz Posted March 29 Posted March 29 idk if it's me who had low expectations, but I love the entire album, the little interludes are EVERYTHING. First time since 2013 that I'm impressed with B. Can't wait for act iii 1

She has been the face of black woman in country for a while As I tend to do with Beyoncé projects, I wait for the full credits to be released. Backing vocals, a slick interpolation, and co-writing are still a possibility.

Plz, mickey has gone through hell to open the door for many new black woman in country. Mickey barley gets charted/radio plays because she speaks up about the injustice shes faced. Shes spoken up many many times in support of the black girls in country
Rider Posted March 29 Posted March 29 I'm just gonna say it, I'm not getting it on the first listen as many of you do. However on my 2nd listen now and many more things start to make waaay more sense. I was so overwhelmed by American Requiem on first listen cause it's so much to digest but I see the vision now. Daughter and Ya Ya are career highlights. There's many things I need to warm up to still but I feel like I'm getting there.

She's actually celebrating the real pioneer. the ladies on Blackbird were very vocal in their excitement and support of Bey "going country". I could be mistaking, but I don't recall any reaction from Mickey. 1 1 1
