EarStyle Posted March 29 Posted March 29 Maxine Ashley's "Cookie Man" being sampled on "Sweet Honey Buckin" literally blew my mind!

It's lyrically heavy but it's not overly dark like how Reneigh opened which kinda throws off your energy if you're not ready for that. Also the songs are the perfect length for this adhd generation. I agree, IM THAT GIRL is such an innovative and strong track that I literally remember feeling punched by it and I misjudged it, it feels like a sun god of a song to me. Still my personal favorite opener, but its so jarring to new ears that I bet a lot of people never got a chance to feel those words, it is for 100% bad *******, not 99%, not 98%, 100% bad ******* only. This feels more accessible in every way to people who dont get the culture or lived experience needed to appreciate RENA to its full extent. 2
Mandalay Posted March 29 Posted March 29 I'm so sick of this retro/vintage nostalgic aesthetics that everybody's trying to 'recreate'.
