The Slayer Posted February 12 Posted February 12 I prefer Texas out of the two but it's not for me so far. Hopefully the other tracks will be ones I enjoy more, I loved Act i.
ATRL Moderator Azulito Posted February 12 ATRL Moderator Posted February 12 16 Carriages is okay but I just can’t get into these. I respect what she’s doing but this almost feels like cosplay, especially that other song. The lyrics, the banjo… Hopefully the rest of the album is not so literal. 3
TryMe Posted February 12 Posted February 12 I was shocked when I heard the song this morning. All I could think of was the fan theory about all the acts. I prefer 16 carriages. The other one is too country for me.

State of Grace. Posted February 12 Posted February 12 Do you guys think there could be an Orville Peck collab on this? I swear I remember reading the rumor last year and I noticed him commenting under IG post. I'm here for it though. He's so talented and Bronco was a criminally underrated album. Plus, he's a fellow sister. Methinks she'd rather feature black artists instead, but the scene is so...empty for obvious reasons. I don't really know many modern names, Brittney Spencer maybe? Mickey Guyton? 1
spiritboy Posted February 12 Posted February 12 Since i hate country music, this era will be a skip for me unfortunately. But wish the Queen best of luck. 1
Johnny Jacobs Posted February 12 Posted February 12 Peaches is going to be the partition of this album. I just know it.

Gold Posted February 12 Posted February 12 texas holdem is such a boring song...16 carriages I can't feel it... I'm not too fond of her country songs... 1
Where are you now? Posted February 12 Posted February 12 Wasn't expecting this while watching superbowl commercials last night. Exciting! Give us real visuals this time Bey. Laughing at the banner tho, 2 months before album release. mess
nick4bty Posted February 12 Posted February 12 These are both awful. 16 Carriages less awful, but still, zero replay value and zero catchiness. Not sure what exactly her goal is with this, but it’s a huge miss for me. 8

Also misogyny runs rampant (think of the ostracization of Kacey after Golden Hour), let alone the prevailing anti-Black sentiments AND misogynoir… Beyonce being Beyonce just adds another layer of intersectionality into this whole thing as she literally embodies everything white supremacist America hates… this was really a tangent but I think this will already make for a really interesting cultural case study in the future about blackness and rural America as well as the boundaries of music genres in relation to race. brenda-walsh Posted February 12 Posted February 12 i actually really loved Texas Hold Em and thought 16 carriages was boring

I feel like Texas might be the BMS of the album tbh. The latter was also dragged for being too literal, commercial, basic, etc and the rest of the album ended up being quite different. I loved it on first listen but the production was too basique compared to the rest of Renaissance for instance. I have no doubt that Act ii will serve the same thing.

vipanonymous Posted February 12 Posted February 12 16 Carriages is the superior song. It's a bummer ACT II is really country. But I'll give it a chance, it's Beyoncé after all.
Summer Boy Posted February 12 Posted February 12 Both songs are mid. They are not terrible, but I've heard both of them twice and I won't be listening again. They are not interesting and I got bored listening to them. I remember I hated Break My Soul when it was released (I still think it's a mediocre song but I don't hate it now). Thankfully she released Cuff It right after, that song is excellent.
Maxxie Posted February 12 Posted February 12 Slightly disappointed but then again country is not my thing. It will be interesting to see how these singles and the album perform outside of the US.
mrpartyrocker Posted February 12 Posted February 12 I’m not a fan of country music. Out of the two, 16 carriages is decent. I just hope that the album will have something like need you now lady a or something more upbeat. I hope she’s not going for this literal country sound for a whole album… give me something I can hold onto until act iii
mrpartyrocker Posted February 12 Posted February 12 Why does texas hold em sound similar to you should be sad? although I actually like Halsey’s
