It's very different, it's a softer country ballad. But it's gorgeous.

the hyper-defensiveness of some ppl already :bibliahh: people are allowed to not exactly be thrilled over news that shes covering songs on this album and collabing with Miley Cyrus. and who cares, it's Beyoncé. the album will do well regardless of someone on atrl's opinion.

Dolly's original recording of I Will Always Love You topped the country charts in 1974, and then her rerecording of I Will Always Love You topped the country charts in 1982, and then another rerecording of I Will Always Love You went top 15 on the country charts in 1995.

Obviously Whitney's rendition is great and iconic and huge, but to act like it was some random song plucked out of obscurity is just ridiculous. It was a timeless hit and a signature song not just in Dolly's career but in the entire genre of country music well before Whitney ever touched it. But that's just the power of Dolly's songwriting: so effective and universal that her country classic went on to become a pop and R&B classic, too.

The way Elvis wanted to cover it in the 70s but Dolly refused because Colonel Parker wanted her to sign over half the publishing rights. But then she got the last laugh because, as she put it, Whitney's version made her so much money she could have bought Graceland.

Dolly herself thanked Miley for giving this song a new life and more popularity. Dolly was known in USA only, Miley introduced Jolene to younger generation around the world. Her cover is the most viewed live cover in YouTube history??

Jolene was in fact a certified iconic hit and was before that cover, possibly the most recognizable country song by a woman ever.

Seriously I couldn't even express a little disappointment, I'm sure I'll like the album because she is high caliber after all, without ppl acting like we are trashing it. The album will do great commercially that's for sure, and I hope it is as intricate and subversive as Renaissance

Worth noting too that Dolly invested royalties from Whitney's version in a black community

Dolly's always been a real one.
