Windy Day Posted February 8 Posted February 8 absolutely no shade here but i’m trying to understand how she’s boosting the economy more than kpop groups who are performing in front of the double of the audience she’s performing for in japan does that mean she has to rely on the demand from the entire continent who are traveling to japan hence spending there whereas other musical acts can easily sell out multiple domes of local fans? again this is a genuine question because this looks like obvious PR

Which K-Pop groups do you have in mind? Surely, there’s a PR element, but she’s doing twice as many shows at the Tokyo Dome as BTS or Blackpink. And we know her shows are grossing $20M/night on average so probably more than twice as much ticket revenue per attendee. 1

Whereas Taylor is playing only in Tokyo for a few nights every few years. People (specifically Japanese people) will need to travel to Tokyo from other cities (via train, car, plane), stay at a hotel, buy food locally. This can run up several hundred USD per person. Then, you have to add the increased demand as foreigners who don't have tour dates will also be visiting, surging the cost for hotel and flights as well. This too coincides with Lunar New Year in Korea & China, so the cost to travel is already high in Japan regardless of the shows. Edited February 8 by taylamour 1

The only other act I could find that did 55k/night was Blackpink, but they only played 2 shows and had cheaper tickets. There are also compound effects of tens of thousands of fans flying in from other countries and continents for the show (or shows). I can't speak to the specific crowds or ticket revenues of Kpop groups at the Tokyo Dome (because I can't actually find any that have, but I'd assume they'd do shows in a wider variety of cities around the region. Plus, I looked at previous attendance figures for shows at the Tokyo Dome, and most came in below what Taylor's doing per night. For instance her own previous tours, Twice's last shows there, and Mariah's shows in the 90s came in at 50k/night, while acts like Madonna, BTS, SHINee,Guns N Roses, and Bruno Mars averaged between 35k and 45k/night. I'm sure there are several shows I missed, and maybe they reach or surpass Taylor's total attendance figures, and maybe they even surpass her gross, but the ratio of local/international travel is probably quite different. 1
Trainwreck Posted February 8 Posted February 8 My impactless fave Oh if only she'd wear 1989 different wigs during each set of the show, maybe she'd have some impact 2
False God Posted February 8 Posted February 8 OTH are embarassing. When Taylor is helping the econony they are like who cares? When Taylor flys her jets they say carbon emissions!
