Jotham Posted February 8 Posted February 8 Quote “In our zeal to greatly increase volume partially tied to this wanting to chase more global subs for our streaming platform, some of our studios lost a little focus. So the first step that we’ve taken is that we’ve reduced volume, we reduced output, particularly in Marvel,” Iger said. Iger’s promise to make less overall, but more of the titles audiences loved most, is reflected in Disney’s new slate additions. During the earnings call, the studio announced that sequels to its hit 2016 animated films “Moana” and “Zootopia” will be the company’s Thanksgiving releases in 2024 and 2025, respectively.
poki Posted February 8 Posted February 8 Shut down Disney+ before you have no choice but to shut down Disney Studios. 1
loveisdead9582 Posted February 8 Posted February 8 I don’t mind the number of shows/movies we got. The quality was the issue. Forcing that much content in such a short time is an issue. The writing, cohesiveness, sfx, etc suffered because the people weren’t given enough time to do their jobs correctly.
imabadkid Posted February 8 Posted February 8 (edited) Reuters had a good piece recently that essentially said... Hollywood is dying. It's not just Disney, there's cuts being done all over Hollywood by virtually every studio. People just aren't interested in going to the movies or hell even movie stars in general. They're too consumed with TikTok and YouTube and influencers. Idk how Hollywood is going to fix that tbh. Streaming is a mess these days too and Netflix is the only so far that has managed to turn a real profit. Edited February 8 by imabadkid 1
stjosephprey4us Posted February 8 Posted February 8 Wow Disney is very “love ‘em and leave ‘em”. When Marvel was making them big $$, there didn’t seem to be a problem. Now, 2 or 3 flops (and not even a full year of Marvel flopping, bc we had GOTG last year which was a smash) and Disney is ready to abandon them
Happylittlepunk Posted February 8 Posted February 8 Star Wars and Disney princess movies is the only thing making Disney money anyway.
Nintendoes Posted February 8 Posted February 8 Didn't they just invest 1B in Fortnite? Maybe they need to invest wisely.
DamianSolo Posted February 9 Posted February 9 It's not about the amount of content that was releasing, it was just virtually all subpar after Endgame—aside from a couple of films and some of the television shows on Disney+. They should have went straight into the next big threat, instead of having such a long cool-down period. The goal should have been to immediately recapture interest by keeping the energy of the Infinity Saga going straight into the next. It's been way too much of a slow-burner to something that still has yet to even take shape. It's been almost five years since Endgame. In that same time, we had already gone from Iron Man to The Avengers.
Hurem Posted February 9 Posted February 9 Streaming is not a sustainable distribution format if you want to produce quality. Go back to producing few quality movies a year, instead of dozen mediocre ones.
LustSpell Posted February 9 Posted February 9 Streaming for TV shows is an utter failure if you're not Netflix. Focus on making good movies again in theater and you'll make money.
