Usher "inspired" by Rihanna's Super Bowl halftime show

He's hoping to create some more magic in Vegas, something that leaves a lasting impression on fans like past shows by Prince, Michael Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Shakira, and Beyoncé, among others, did on him. But he says he's especially inspired by last year's headliner.

"Rihanna's was fire because of the choreography and the way they did something that felt like a concert," he explains. "It actually was a great deal of inspiration [for] how I began to think of my show. If you ever came to my residency, it was all about being immersed — being immersed in an experience that is all of these things that wouldn't necessarily go together," citing culture from Atlanta, where he was discovered, as well as L.A., and Broadway's theatricality.

this is huge coming from him since he premiered a decade before her. for him to be inspired by her performance as one of the best male performers ever is such a compliment. :clap3:

rihanna superbowl aged like wine for me

at first i didn't like it, but after that i understood the fact she focused more on the music and thats why it didn't have that many things to take away our attention

of course she had a nice stage, some choreo... after all it is the superbowl

but it wasn't like gaga, jlo, shakira, katy. and at first i thought it was boring and didn't like it

but watching it again some days later I GOT IT. and it's one of my faves right now

and that's one of the reasons that she got the biggest catalog streaming boost btw, cuz her performance focused on the music.

and what a catalog she has. :clap3: hit after hit non-stop.

And the last few Stages destroyed the field so Rihanna's set had to be easily moved with the least about of damage to the field as possible.

I think her show is more comparable to the early shows like MJ and Prince than the spectacles of surprise performers and huge floats, a one woman show full of undeniable hits.

Sis :toofunny3: I get what you are trying to say but her laidback, taking it in her stride energy and model posing is not the kind of show that MJ and Prince put on; those were far more akin to the kind of all out energy performances from the girlies that certain commentariat tried to disparage for “doing too much” in favour of Rihanna’s approach.

Rihanna still setting trends during retirement.

girl let’s not get delusional. It was a stellar performance but it’s not even in the same hemisphere as MJ and Prince. the energy wasn’t even the same, the celebrity isn’t even the same.

I meant a One Person show, No need for gimmicks or another artist. every Superbowl for the last couple decades always has a sidekick and extravagant set. For them it was the artist and the music.
