Graves Posted February 6 Posted February 6 Inspired by the recent Switch sales thread, was wondering what you guys consider the best or your favorite console like... ever? Using any metrics you like: game library is the obvious one, but also services, tech specs, controllers, aesthetics etc.
Graves Posted February 6 Author Posted February 6 Personally, my favorite game library for a console belongs to the SNES for the sheer amount of classics it produced, but my heart truly belongs to the Gamecube. Killer library along with an iconic design. The purple lunchbox deserved better Would round out a neat top five with those two, PS2, PS4 and Switch 2 1

I don’t think it’s fair to compare any of those to PS4, PS5, Switch, XB1 or Series X just because those offer such massive classic catalogs.
Eóghan Posted February 7 Posted February 7 1. Switch 2. PS4 3. Nintendo DS lite 4. Gameboy Advance SP 5. PS Vita Clearly I'm a portable gurl but damn the library on those systems alone is insanity and i feel I really got the most out of them and they all reached their full potential. (PS Vita not really, i wanted more and deserved more) A nod for the Sega Megadrive, N64, Gameboy Color and PS2 for my dear childhood and all the immense fun I had with my friends. But objectively it's nostalgia talking.
Jotham Posted February 7 Posted February 7 At the moment, I would say GCN. Amazing library and controls, and many of its games still look great today. I'm enjoying the PS5 a lot right now but I would have to give it time before I can say if it's better than the GCN. 1
SlowGinFizzzz Posted February 7 Posted February 7 In 2024? Easily the Switch. Amazing original games, lots of classic games available, portability. Overall? I honestly think the GBA and DS eras are hard to beat. 1
Curaga Posted February 7 Posted February 7 Probably nothing will ever top the Wii as far as console aesthetics, but I have to go with PS2 as my overall favorite for the game library: Final Fantasy 10, FF10-2, FF12, Kingdom Hearts, KH2, Katamari Damacy, We Love Katamari, Dragon Quest 8, SSX 3, Shadow of the Colossus, Soul Calibur III, DDR series…… Also the Jak series, Ratchet & Clank series, and Okami are beloved, but out of those I have only played Jak and Daxter lol 1

If you like Zelda you should play Okami too. It's similar but its strengths lie in different areas. 1
Doogle Posted February 7 Posted February 7 (edited) PS2 of course because I only grew up poor basically with movie tie ins and mediocre platformers so I’m still discovering the amazing library even as an adult. Final Fantasy, Tekken, Persona, GTA just to name a few were killing it. And countless DVDs were watched. Plus stuff like backwards compatibility, Eyetoy etc just added to the enjoyment. Controversially possibly, I’d say 3DS for the Nintendo pick. The library was incredible at the end, the console itself was a lot of fun albeit gimmicky. I adored the music in the menus and the Animal Crossing, Mario, Zelda etc games we got were a lot of fun. They were my first experience with the classic N64 Zelda titles and were the perfect size for taking on trips. Plus they were so easy to hack that my current one can just play everything and I love the New XL screen. She’s the moment. Not to mention miss Streetpass… Edited February 7 by Doogle 1
マルセイユ辺り Posted February 7 Posted February 7 in terms of physical console design, definitely the nintendo switch. the design of the portable aspect, the television deck and the way the controllers can be removed is pretty rad. it will definitely influence every generation of consoles going forward (see: steam deck). nintendo really should have patented that ****. in terms of eras and iconicity, the ps2 was so incredibly foundational in bringing to life the aesthetic and lifestyle that we now use as the blueprint for video game culture as a whole, especially paired with era-mates like the original xbox. it gave games that kind of edgy tang that we now associate with the entire entertainment genre. another note; gen 7 is highly underrated. there was an entire video game renaissance that happened in the late 2000s to onwards that we literally just don't talk about. the birth of assassins creed, mirrors edge, portal, left 4 dead, bioshock, saints row, wii sports, mario galaxy, okami, oblivion and skyrim, dark souls, uncharted, gears of war, mass effect, fallout, the COD and Halo games released during that period and literally so many more. i don't know why we don't celebrate the 360, ps3 and wii more - maybe they're still too recent? and of course, there are so many other consoles that deserve love. it's so hard to pick a winner. the gamecube? the ds? psx? 64? snes? dreamcast? all completely iconic in their own right, and none would be an incorrect answer to me. it's such a subjective thing to ask because so much of it is based on age and nostalgia. but for me, i'll always love the ps2.
Great808 Posted February 7 Posted February 7 PS3 because of all the hot guys I used to have voice sex with and all the live jerkoffs I got on video chat 1
