Rosalia's paternal great grandfather is Cuban, by American logic she's Latina so that's not true either

I do find it funny how American Latinos overlook that detail and try to regulate who is Latino for her but then get mad when actual Latinos spit facts about them not being Latino like in the OP

The US is a melting pot, and is not the only country this happens in - Canadians, British, and I’ve met plenty of people born in homogenous European countries with immigrant parents who refer to themselves as Chinese, Angolan, etc.. If you're referring to the middle and last comment the fact that Spaniards are classified as a racial minority very clearly showcases that they aren't considered (as) white despite the category name. If you have a problem with that and think it's contradictory take it up with the US government and not me

• banning multiple languages throughout history of immigrant children and being so hellbent on forced assimilation that they were anal-retentive about spiced food being a marker of being "non american"
• multiple versions of "separate but equal" in the US such as Jim Crow laws in the south~sun down towns (which were largely in the Midwest and equally present in other regions)~encroachment of indigenous people's land

could go on. This doesn't seem like it would happen in a melting pot country, no? The US is better characterised as being a salad bowl and more accurately a house of hatred. 

 

By no means is it the only country it happens in. It's kind of a common thing amongst western anglophone countries because Australia also does it and you already said Canada and the UK. Yes, exactly my point xx it happens with immigrant populations all around the world. I’ve met german-born ppl with Turkish parents call themselves Turkish, Portuguese that call themselves Angolan, Brazilians that call themselves Italians and Germans — so why do u care so much about Americans calling themselves Latinos? I know people from US maybe will have a hard time understanding it, but for anyone who actually lives in latin america this is very accurate 

 

Anya Taylor Joy despite being extremelly white is 100% more latina and way close to our culture than pretty much everyone that is perceived as latina but doesn´t know anything about us or our culture like Jenna Ortega
