NOW Posted January 31 Posted January 31 Quote Stanley, the makers of the tumblers that have become a viral sensation, have come under scrutiny this week. Social media users, specifically on TikTok and Instagram, have been sharing videos showing at-home lead test findings, and the results are worrying faithful Stanley sippers. Dozens of consumer videos show that their tumblers tested positive for lead. In response, Stanley issued a statement about those findings. "At Stanley, one of the key features of our products is our vacuum insulation technology, which provides consumers with drinkware that keeps beverages at the ideal temperature," the company wrote on its website, acknowledging that lead is used in the manufacturing process. The statement continues, "Once sealed, this area is covered with a durable stainless steel layer, making it inaccessible to consumers. Rest assured that no lead is present on the surface of any Stanley product that comes into contact with the consumer nor the contents of the product." The BBC reached out to Stanley for additional comment but did not hear back by the time of publication. The online statement concludes that Stanley products "meet all US regulatory requirements". https://www.bbc.com/future/article/20240130-stanley-cups-contain-lead-should-consumers-worry They're having a sippy cup off, I fear. 2

The Stanley brand has actually been around for over 100 years and Hydro Flask started only in 2009. Stanley was marketed as more utilitarian products akin to Carthartt and Bass Pro before experiencing a sudden surge in popularity thanks to influencers.
Edit0rz Posted January 31 Posted January 31 I use a glass tumbler. It’s safer than metal and plastic leeching and easy to see if it is clean.
Just a Gay on ATRL Posted January 31 Posted January 31 I’ve been using a Stanley cup quite regularly for the past 13 months since Christmas 2022, but I put that thing away as soon as I saw the news about it possibly having lead. These companies are so reprehensible
