You don't get Kevin to work on an entire album and only serve songs with standard structures. If I'm being completely honest, I don't like Kevin's production AT ALL for Dua. I genuinely thought they would create magic together. Houdini grew on me but I just don't like Training Season. I was expecting more from Kevin, especially with regards to the chorus of the song. It felt empty and boring. There is absolutely nothing wrong with her delivery and vocals. Listen to Training Season over Say It Right's beat. Her voice is immaculate, contrast with how Kevin's production makes her sound monotonous. Granted SIR has one of the most timeless and perfect instrumentals, but Kevin needs to STEP UP! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=77wNOY-NgHI (not sure how to embed) Still excited for the album, especially the more experimental tracks to come. oh that is a STELLAR mashup
jamiko1230 Posted February 19 Posted February 19 Houdini is verry Euro, period (from pick a decade...any decade) lol. To this day (3 months later) totally amazed it did/doing as WELL as it did. Was almost certain US radio would dump it hard right after the holidays. US is bro Magastan (look at what infested and trolled the charts there in 2023!!) lol FN singles were super unique but absolute pop masterpieces w/ retro beats. Due to that had 50/50 chances at best of crossing over into the US. Nothing at ALL about those songs were US centric/ radio catered lol. A Caucasian British woman doing dance/disco/throwback was & will always be a massive risk in a messy market like the US which can't (& will never quit) mumbling, bumbling, mid tempo, basic, dull ah r&b, trap & dubstep. While I don't really care for TS I've said from the 1st listen THAT song (much more than Houdini) I felt fits in waay more w/ what connects in the US & radio. It's a safe, catchy enough, non 'edgy' pop dance song. 4 1

Coming from a flawlessly promoted era to this is so bizarre. I'm not expecting 1000 performances but it makes no sense that Houdini didn't receive a performance until months later. Then teases TS for weeks and performs the song when it hasn't even hit any streaming platform (literally when the hype and interest would be at its peak). Houdini should have been a bigger hit than what it actually was. It's a shame they didn't give it the treatment it deserved. Louder for the people in the back! The fact that his dumb a** lost 2 easy #1 debuts in the UK Charts because of his strategies... He really thinks his daughter is already a established A list name to hold an era with interviews only... Edited February 20 by Jonathan Cruz

THIS is the REAL issue. I get she worked her ARSE off during the FN era but home girl is NOT an established pop girl yet so her relying only on interviews to showcase her personality and briefly / vaguely talk about the era is a HORRIBLE strategy. I know it may be intense but she literally needs another era of FN level promo to FINALLY be fully established in the US tbh...I know she's a vet at this point in Europe since she's been active and slaying since like 2017 there but over in north america she's only REALLY been a thing since 2020 (yes New Rules slayed before that but not many ppl knew her per say...they knew the song mostly at that point). It's with FN that she really startrd to build a brand and name recognition here and one era isn't enough to then just coast and do interviews to promote a record. She still needs to perform a bunch. Performances go viral on social media, they help give your record visuals etc...it's important. PLUS her recent interviews have been lame even in regards to talking about the music because she is unwilling to even give a little info on the records Like Jimmy Kimmel tried to get her to talk about the record, release date title, give a hint and homegirl was SILENT like if you can't give even a crumb about the music then why are u doing these interviews now?! why not wait until you can actually talk about this stuff and perform and what not...it just all feels uneventful and messy AF. 16 2

Magickarp Posted February 19 Posted February 19 Should we blame her dad, or does she just wanna chill and go on weekly vacations with her FN money. Maybe she dropped her old management cuz she didn't wanna be overworked. Not everyone has to follow the Madonna blueprint and reinvent themselves with every era. This idk why so many stan bases are so desperate to claim their faves next album sounds nothing like the previous Ok and? Or why take insult when haters say this sounds the same as FN. U mean it sounds like the critically acclaimed album FN, that made so many people stans? 3

Yeah I would have liked the Chatini / Chatting Season era if the interviews were at least interesting or revealed something new about her/the music. Service95 literally does a better job at showcasing her personality than any of these stale night shows. I don't think she needs to repeat the same campaign as FN though, but even half of it would be nice. 1
Miss Harajuku Posted February 19 Posted February 19 you guys better be in this training season streaming party on stationhead
My20sBlues Posted February 19 Posted February 19 Almost 50k videos on TikTok in less than a week, in perspective Houdini has 79k in months
KatyPrismSpirit Posted February 19 Posted February 19 #26 not that bad tbh. Lets hope she manages to crack top 20.

THIS. Thought it was maybe only me or just went under the radar. Kind of an ODD & rather cringe interview. She was verry much not relaxed or her usual charismatic, confident self. Almost like her father, 'team' or whoever are frazzled/stressing by the messiness of this era, how it's going & it ALL (the distress & chaos) came across in her demeanor?! Was like there was a LOT more she truly wanted to say etc...but was verry reluctantly & annoyed ah told NOT too :-#. She was just...off. 1
State of Grace. Posted February 19 Posted February 19 It would have probably debuted in the Top 20 with more airplay, but Top 30 is a cute start Houdini is peaking / has peaked on Pop so they should move on to TS next week tbh, but the former is also rising on streaming again in the US 1
jamiko1230 Posted February 19 Posted February 19 Keep forgetting she or her DAD dumped her FN era (& before?) management company. If so, YA it's (at the min.) kind of atrocious wtf lol. Wow. The overall botched execution, timing/release dates, promo (or lack of), highly likely switching lead singles & og video etc..To say 'messy' seems mild here. The MUSIC isn't the issue but if have a raging house fire of incompetence (sh**y or barely existent management) no matter how stellar the music is ur gonna be exactly 'where' we are now *3 months after single #1. She wouldn't (or can't) even divulge what the friggin album title is (or a strong HINT) on a major US late night talk show & just sitting there w/ a super stiff/tense look on her face (not even playful) & outta character. Geezus. 1
HappierJealousy Posted February 20 Posted February 20 (edited) Dua literally faces the same problem here as Billie and Olivia’s sophomore - The music quality is basically the same, or even much better, but the GP just started to get exhausted of their voice/sound/type of music, so the decline was generally observed. This doesn’t mean their music doesn’t evolve, the difference is just not recognizable enough for GP, and that’s why most female artists can’t even survive the 4th era. More promotion and performance with better management might help but the overall trend won’t change. I think a HTE/Guts level of success is guaranteed for the album and Dua will be fine unless the rest of the album is extremely weak. She just need to believe herself, release the album asap and then start touring, finish the era properly, and consider the steps after that seriously Edited February 20 by HappierJealousy 6 1
