The video is awful

why is there no budget this era?

Really wish she just released the original video but with a disclaimer at the start. We all know she's a pro-Palestinian legend with no bad intentions

tbh the budget isn't the issue. It's the lack of anything going on...

The last chorus needed a cute little choreo with the guys in the cafe and her facial expressions should have changed throughout the song a bit. There are different ways of expressing being "bored" or disappointed by your prospective guys trying to court you...that would have been the bare minimum and would have made the video a little more exciting to look at. Even an outfit change mid song could have helped a bit :rip:

Literally just put a warning that says the video was filmed before the recent attacks on Palestine. Dua stands with Palestine :ryan3: it’d be controversial but it would drive more views to the video and would save all face for her

I'm not someone who cares much about charts when the music appeals to me and I'm only a casual listener of Madame Lipa, so I'm fairly unbiased in my opinion of her.

I've listened to this 'Training Season' multiple times now since it's release - 4 or 5 times today alone to see if I can get into it. Yet, each time I stop listening, I almsot immediately forget what it sounds like (early onset dementia, perhaps :oh:) while still remembering how it's lacking something.

I'd say it's a fairly weak song for her standards and a strange single choice. I thought 'Houdini' was an odd choice for a single when that first came out (although the instrumental/intro to 'Houdini' and part of its chorus are very catchy), but 'Houdini' is certainly the strongest of the two singles so far and I fail to see that really taking off after all this time.

I don't see this second single being a big hit soon or even a sleeper hit months down the line. I listen to a lot of French-language artists and its production reminds me of female pop songs you might hear on French or Belgian radio, so I could imagine 'Training Season' resonating with some European audiences but not so much with people elsewhere (namely the predominantly English-speaking countries)

I could be completely wrong, of course. Again, I'm only a casual listener of hers and if I like a record I truly could not care any less than I already do about where it falls on any of the charts worldwide - but for those who say it's already great and those who are predicting a future smash hit (and it looks like most people in here are saying it's a good song), I'd be interested to know:

- Which country you're from.

- Why you think it's got potential to be as successful as some of her previous work.

- Why you think it's a good song.

Finally, for the chart obsédé(e)s:

- Where you think it will chart in your country.

Peace and love to Madame Lipa in the meantime.

I don’t think this will be a massive smasha. I don’t think a ton of people will understand the metaphor entirely and can’t relate to the message for that reason. It’ll hinge on whether people think it’s catchy enough to listen to.

I do, however, think this is absolute pop perfection. Effortlessly switches production throughout the song without becoming dissonant, switches tempo while still feeling perfectly paced, SOUNDS fierce but is lyrically pretty vulnerable, feels like a very natural progression from FN and maintains the Dua touch without completely sounding the same, meets the criteria the song set out to accomplish (blending pop with the psychedelic influence), and generally just feels trendy and cool without actually hopping on a trend but rather attempting to create one ala FN.

I’m from the US and I think our music taste is pretty horrible overall, so I don’t really care if it smashes here honestly. It’s already popular in my friend group which is all I really ask for

Please she showed support for Palestine way back in 2021 and Billboard went out of their way to block her from #1 with Levitating themselves :rip: Who knows if those were actually connected, but it was extremely suspicious timing for them to change their formula in the exact way that would cost her the #1

If she did that now, I couldn’t even fathom what people would do to sabotage her

Good news! If I remember correctly, Houdini was already out at this time

The thing that I love about Training Season and what makes it feel special is Dua being more personal with the lyrics especially the chorus, she is giving apart of herself and letting us in on her world while still allowing for it to be relatable, catchy, playful and joyful. She really has made a masterpiece.

This is what makes me so annoyed the video sucks so awfully... She could have taken the visual in so many routes that all would have been awesome...  Instead she gave whatever the **** that was :deadbanana2:

I have no idea how she is competing for the #1 in the UK but let's gooooo Dua :jonnycat:

They need to do something about to secure the #1 at least there

You know, I was actually thinking about this “Dua needs to switch it up to smash!” narrative going around.

She did and the songs that did well were the ones that were retro throwbacks similar to what she’s doing now:

We’re Good: Meh success

Demeanor: FLOP

Potion: FLOP

Un Día: Meh success

Prisoner: Meh success

Meanwhile..

Cold Heart: MEGA SMASH

Dance the Night: MEGA SMASH

So I don’t think that’s really an issue at all. She might as well make music her and her fans love.

The switch it up comments are so weird to me, she is, she is not making disco-pop

She will always make dancepop and she has for the past 9 years, why would anyone expect her to change that?

Dua Lipa is the kind of act who can only work with commercial success. If her label stops seeing a return on their investment, then the budget will go down for the next era. If the budget isn't there and she's not getting the best writers and producers in the room with her, then what exactly are we left with?

It's all well and good saying you don't care about the charts if we're talking about someone who can put out a project by themselves/with a handful of collaborators, but that's not going to work for a traditional popstar like Dua.

Chart performance is not what is making money, it actually cost them money.

What makes money is touring (Future Nostalgia Tour grosses over 100 mil) and brand endorsement, commercials and collaborations, thats where the millions are hidden.

Chart positions used to be an helping factor in order to negotiate the biggest payment for these type of commercial collaborations however it is not the case anymore.

Brands like Versace, Porsche, YSL, Puma etc. They don't care if the song was no.1 for a week and then declined to oblivion just like many current so called "hits" they care about her presence and overall position as an celebrity on a market.

This song needed a video where she was an cvnty assassin traveling the world killing guys in London, Paris, and Rome

Exactly. Her sound has been evolving with each album but she's been a dance pop artist since her debut. Those comments make no sense, it's obvious some people can't tell a difference between these things and they're just being ignorant. :rip:
