His task is to incorporate his melancholy, psychedelic alt-pop into Dua's mainstream, commercial music so that the songs still sound like hits, but also left field. The result has kind of turned out to hit the middle on both of those scales, but maybe there will be more adventurous stuff on the album. The copy paste chorus 3-4 times in a song is just lazy tho , same as with Houdini also on Training Season 2

She was nerfed for the sake of the plot you can't have South Asia and Latinamerica in the game. lmao She just needs to make a cute appearance in those countries to boost her streaming numbers again. FN singles and even DTN were huge there. Edited February 18 by unclefloprry
Relampago. Posted February 18 Posted February 18 The way Dua is held to the highest of standards for consistently releasing the highest quality pop music so she gets criticized for doing what every other pop girl pretty much does, even if the song is elevated in eleven other ways Anyways, when can we expect predictions on where this will debut? Hoping for top 20 but since we have no radio deal, guessing we can hope for top 30? 3
J-esper Posted February 18 Posted February 18 (edited) It would be a cool if she would do a full live arrangement one day being more orchestral, highlighting the piano and organ parts Edited February 18 by J-esper

It's still early for "Training Season", but I think it might land in my top 10. 1. Levitating 2. Physical 3. Future Nostalgia 4. Can They Hear Us 5. Love Again 6. Cool 7. Be the One 8. Training Season 9. Hallucinate 10. Pretty Please 11. Houdini 12. Fever 13. Don't Start Now 14. If It Ain't Me 15. Break My Heart 16. One Kiss 17. Blow Your Mind (Mwah) 18. That Kind of Woman 19. Lost in Your Light 20. New Rules 1.) Levitating (if she ever surpasses this, I’ll die tbh) 2.) Fever 3.) Houdini (Kinda tied with Fever tbh, but I’ve liked Fever for longer) 4.) Training Season (could pass Houdini eventually, we’ll see) 5.) Love Again 6.) Electricity 7.) Break My Heart 8.) That Kind of Woman 9.) Future Nostalgia 10.) Don’t Start Now 11.) If It Ain’t Me 12.) Be the One 13.) Physical 14.) New Rules 15.) Hallucinate 16.) Blow Your Mind 17.) One Kiss 18.) Un Día 19.) Pretty Please 20.) Potion (never got the hate for this.. chill bop!) Kind of hard to rank, but I truly believe Houdini and Training Season are firmly in my top 5 songs by her. I didn’t think she could top Future Nostalgia but I think she’s managing to do it. 1

It's bizzare how she releases quality does a great performance at Grammys and everyone forgets about that. 1

I agree with this but I actually feel like the output is… amazing? Like nothing on the radio sounds like TS or Houdini’s bridges, nor the bass lines on either song. I haven’t really heard pop music exactly like this maybe this century at all? I’m not saying it’s revolutionary or anything, but the fact they managed to make a very solid pop song have clear alt/psychedelic influences without one stomping on the other is kind of incredible. Let’s look at Perfect Illusion for example. Generally a noisy mess where there was a strong dissonance between pop and alt rock. Almost felt directionless. None of that is really present in Training Season or Houdini— it’s clean, crisp, catchy and cohesive. I think what I feel instead of mid is actually a perfect mesh where the two sounds are working in harmony and meshing into something that works together so we aren’t getting super generic pop nor super obvious psychedelic copy and paste. That being said, I think Dua has the perfect voice for a Same Old Mistakes type of song, because when Rih covered it, it elevated the song to new heights. I would love to see Dua take on a super chill, vibey, trippy, trill song like that on an album track for a downtempo song. Edited February 18 by Relampago. 1
kyris89 Posted February 18 Posted February 18 All these essays overanalysing a song lol. Just enjoy the great music Dua is giving to us 1
Shaner69 Posted February 18 Posted February 18 The novels in here are amazing. Dua obviously did something.
