jamiko1230 Posted February 16 Posted February 16 (edited) Ya, this era is having a bit of a 'lacking an anti climatic, more exciting/ crafty outros' (along w/ 'something missing') issues lol. Not at all lethal but just kind of big missed opportunities. A song like Levitating (1 example) may be near impossible to ever create again but even 1/2 of that masterpiece would do. Song was more...much more than 'multi layered' but kept elevating/building up to epic levels & kept keeping you wondering what was next and didn't stop. Edited February 16 by jamiko1230 1
storminthedark Posted February 16 Posted February 16 The song is fine. It’s not bad but it doesn’t feel like it moves the needle. There are other songs that’ll be remembered in her discography over this. I’m surprised by the lack of visual identity for this era since she’s always been really great at nailing a strong direction from the start of her career with DL1. I understand why her team would want to replicate the rollout of FN because it was so successful but these singles aren’t nearly as bankable as that album. 3
Peak Now Posted February 16 Posted February 16 Am I the only one who liked Houdini more anyway!!! a serve nonetheless 1
NostalgiawithDua Posted February 16 Posted February 16 I feel like her career is replicating Britney’s more than Katy/Rihanna, 2 major debut and sophomore albums with big global smash hits and highly anticipated lead single (Slave 4U) which was definitely not as bigger than BOMT or Oops, I do hope we get something visually stronger with album teasers and 3rd single…… THIS ERA IS FOR ARTS, NOT THE CHARTS!

midnitemagic Posted February 16 Posted February 16 idk y'all there's something about this era that's just not hitting for me. Houdini and Training Season are fine, but not great imo. 1

mike_int Posted February 16 Posted February 16 I know Kevin Parker is very popular here but I have to be honest I never liked his production and found it very anticlimactic. "Training Season" with all the echoes and bass and organ is amazing and production is amazing, but again, just like with Houdini, it miss the final climax and natural progression. You have this big organ after bridge when you would expect the final BANG and suddenly you are back to what you heard twice during the song already :/ 2

Dragonfly Posted February 16 Posted February 16 the nicest thing I can say: it makes Houdini sound better 1

paddii_ Posted February 16 Posted February 16 They should’ve made the bridge longer and used it as the Outro Also Kevin uses way too much elements from His own music in this. At some moments this feels like Tame Impala ft Dua. Still really like this
LanaXtinaFan Posted February 16 Posted February 16 (edited) After sitting on it for a bit, it grew on me a bit. But it’s still lacking a punch. I remember first hearing DSN and Physical and was blown away. This song is just missing something, it’s missing some magic. I think it’s the production. The choruses and the synths post chorus are just not hitting, and the final chorus is extremely underwhelming. I think it’ll be a hit overseas. But I don’t think this is gonna be her era in the states, which is unfortunate. Edited February 16 by LanaXtinaFan 1
