It's solid but it feels like she tapped Tame Impala to do a re-imagined Break My Heart. I feel like the Kevin Parker / Harle get-together didn't amount to the big, genre-bending, forward thinking stuff it was (probably) supposed to. Exactly
halcyonday Posted February 16 Posted February 16 woke up and this still feels massive whodini stans LOST

Klein Posted February 16 Posted February 16 I absolutely LOVE Training Season. It's just too good. What a fantastic bop.

The song could really use something more punchy, at least we had the godly outro in Houdini! Here it just stays... there. I like the laid back aesthetic of the video, that's a clear departure from FN, but I was hoping for a bit of dancing. So was this song really supposed to be the first single? Because I heard the one she wanted release had like a war theme (in the lyrics or in the video) so it would have been in poor state given the geopolitical situation at that time. Did I misread that? Because 'Training season' doesn't give off this vibe, or maybe I should focus on the lyrics more. I love that she's doing what she WANTS to do and is not following any trend, but I also want her to smash because she's an amazing artist! The original video for Training Season allegedly had the men start destroying the city and buildings and each other to get to Dua. 1

She gives cool, unbothered, a bit frosty. It works for her and feels compatible with her personality. She would look out of her element trying to serve dramatics I am a certified stan of Duallah, but this Video is a step back. For comparison, look at the We're Good Video. Sure, she isn't doing much there either, but theres a storyline thats a bit silly, shes serving looks, its an interesting setting. The MV for TS is just bland. 3
Gesi Posted February 16 Posted February 16 She can't top new rules or blow your mind music video, heck even new love and last dance are better than this. The song is great though. 1

Blue Monday Posted February 16 Posted February 16 I was hoping that the acapella chorus that was used in the Grammy's performance would have been apart of the studio version. Disappointing that it isn't, but the song is still a bop.
Solaria Posted February 16 Posted February 16 Woke up and couldn’t think of anything else but this song. It’s an instant smash on my personal charts I fear 1

It’s a very good song but it definitely misses an explosion. I’m sure someone can edit it to give more punch to the chorus and it will feel just perfect.
Moonbeam Posted February 16 Posted February 16 (edited) This song is quite interesting. There’s a lot going on both vocally and musically. I really like the contrast between the verses, in which her vocals feel… lighter than normal? They give the verses a coyness that makes the subsequent “cuz training season’s over” so commanding. The subtle vocals in the second verse “I hope (it hits me like an) arrow” are sheer delight! There are also so many different things to focus on musically with the main guitar line, delicious bass licks, the dramatic organ swells, little ornamental synth touches, and even acoustic guitar! The instrumental version is an essential showcase. I’m not sure if this will be a big hit, but I don’t care much when the music is so interesting! Edited February 16 by Moonbeam

But, contrast the dark energy of her live Grammy performance where she was moving about and being as hot as a lava flow. Surely that was a better direction to take. Here’s hoping she’s going to perform it live on G Norton next week. Edited February 16 by Vermouth 1

I think that this is the type of song that live is way better than the studio version
QueenofCopyPaste Posted February 16 Posted February 16 The chorus is already energetic. Idk why y'all still feel this "Tame" and needed an explosion
Kern Posted February 16 Posted February 16 this is also the problem with debuting live versions before releasing studio. Studio versions will always sound flatter compared to the live recording and it can ruin the song for a lot of people

QueenofCopyPaste Posted February 16 Posted February 16 I was so underwhelmed by Houdini But Training Season IS IT Glad its a single when it was supposed to be the Original lead back in October
ReachOut Posted February 16 Posted February 16 2 minutes ago, QueenofCopyPaste said: Its always like that. Studio has different instrumentations Yeah of course but I expected it to be more similiar in the structure, that's it. I'm not saying it's not good, just that I expected something different.
