Popular Post NostalgiawithDua Posted February 19 Popular Post Posted February 19 I’m sorry but how do ya’ll hear those church-ahh strings throughout the song and say it’s disco or sound anything like Future Nostalgia, it’s almost as if ya’ll need to hear more music…. 14 2

itsjokesta Posted February 19 Posted February 19 Yeah, I don't get the comparisons neither. TS sounds dark (sonically) with the organs and vocal effects. More punchier/grittier. Maybe because Dua's songs are always heavy bass driven that it makes her songs feel groovy but I wouldn't classify this as Disco. I would even say that Physical doesn't sound Disco at all to me. 4

shyboi Posted February 19 Posted February 19 the instrumental of TS is FIRE the sophistication, waay too much 1
State of Grace. Posted February 19 Posted February 19 (edited) Both songs so far are tinted with disco influences, but they sound nothing like the disco songs she did in 2020. Even Future Nostalgia was not a "disco album". Lemme quote my post in this thread again On 1/25/2024 at 10:50 PM, State of Grace. said: I'll give you Dance The Night, but neither Houdini nor this song would fit on Future Nostalgia. Sorry you're either deaf, trolling, or you have very limited musical knowledge/references (not like mine is very large or anything) if these songs sound like it to you. The Kevin Parker soundscape is all over them and that sounds like a perfect sonic departure/evolution without sounding too detached from what came before it. Dua has clearly has found her lane and she's still a "Main Pop Girl" with a lot of commercial expectations at the end of the day, so we were never getting some 10-minute psychedelia fest or Currents type of album from her. She's a dance-pop artist at her core so each one of her albums will have that with different twists/elements. I honestly won't be expecting a drastic sonic pivot or something left field anytime soon, maybe after a few more albums? I'm just glad that Kevin & Danny's marks are still all over the immaculate production and the music slaps hard so far. I really thought FN was her creative peak/magnum opus but she's proving me wrong so far. Anyways, the lazy criticism is giving "all of Lana's albums sound the same". Sorry yall are just deaf. (Side note but I read somewhere else that this album might end up serving mainstream pop Caroline Polachek/Desire and I kinda agree to an extent kii) Edited February 19 by State of Grace. 2
ahauntingnearu Posted February 19 Posted February 19 FN was about as 'disco' as DL3 is 'psychedelic'. It's influence, not an exact ode to the genre. Now eNOUGH! Separately, I don't think her vocal work gets enough credit. Not the vocal range or ability - of course she doesn't have one single song that is vocally demanding - but rather how much personality and emotionality she puts into her vocals. Almost all of her songs are upbeat and fun/happy, but still since FN and especially DL3 so far, she puts so much sass and effort into not sounding boring or bored - in the slightest. She has so much emphasis in being dynamic in the way she sounds, and to me that does make her stand out from many of her contemporaries. 11

NostalgiawithDua Posted February 19 Posted February 19 I think it’s more about her delivery than instrumental themselves, her saying psychedelic tricked people into thinking she’ll be doing Tame Impala airy vocals, I kinda need a song that’s not about break-up or any man, maybe in future…..

Levitating's BPM, clapping sounds, bass/drums, flow, keyboards etc...may not be 4 on the floor but is textbook 'roller disco' from ~1979-early 80s. That's a bit different but essentially lands the same way. Training Season is...pop/dance. Edited February 19 by jamiko1230 3

I'm sure she saved the more experimental tracks for the album. You don't get Kevin to work on an entire album and only serve songs with standard structures. If I'm being completely honest, I don't like Kevin's production AT ALL for Dua. I genuinely thought they would create magic together. Houdini grew on me but I just don't like Training Season. I was expecting more from Kevin, especially with regards to the chorus of the song. It felt empty and boring. There is absolutely nothing wrong with her delivery and vocals. Listen to Training Season over Say It Right's beat. Her voice is immaculate, contrast with how Kevin's production makes her sound monotonous. Granted SIR has one of the most timeless and perfect instrumentals, but Kevin needs to STEP UP! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=77wNOY-NgHI (not sure how to embed) Still excited for the album, especially the more experimental tracks to come. KOMH Posted February 19 Posted February 19 I think a #4-5 debut on Friday seems reasonable. Hopefully top 3 but I wouldn't be surprised if it ended up missing it. 1

And that’s not a bad thing. Not everyone has to follow the Madonna blueprint and reinvent themselves with every era. Psychedelic music is retro/nostalgic so yeah they’d both fit the concept of FN. The two new singles don’t sound out of place next to Pretty Please, Love Again, BMH. Houdini and Love Again sound really good together actually. 1
RiseAndShine Posted February 19 Posted February 19 Also can she fire her dad too? That man should just stick to being eye candy in the background. Coming from a flawlessly promoted era to this is so bizarre. I'm not expecting 1000 performances but it makes no sense that Houdini didn't receive a performance until months later. Then teases TS for weeks and performs the song when it hasn't even hit any streaming platform (literally when the hype and interest would be at its peak). Houdini should have been a bigger hit than what it actually was. It's a shame they didn't give it the treatment it deserved. 2

Popular Post Solaria Posted February 19 Popular Post Posted February 19 The disco conversation is getting tiring. There’s a clear sonical difference between Houdini and TS vs FN. The former songs are much more dirtier, edgier and with more attitude. Anyone with an ear can hear that. Just because she didnt completely switch genres doesnt mean it sounds the same, Houdini wouldn’t fit on FN at all 27
