I'd understand if it was for songs but artist? If she is Pop how can she also be R&B? Listen to the album honestly. She’s such a versatile vocalist that she didn’t need to stay in one lane, songs like Mary Jane and The Thrill is Gone don’t fit in the same pop bracket as black mascara, flip a switch etc . If only polydor had took note instead of forcing her to do faceless dance. ot - She deserves her flowers. Her schedule, ethic, passion and belief for this album have been really inspirational. The way she’s served a better era than women who use whole teams of writers, marketing experts, management , label insiders and she foot the bill her damn self. A very ******* brave strong woman indeed. 3
Soda Pop Queen Posted January 25 Posted January 25 Wow! She deserves. I came to 'My 21st Century Blues' kinda late but it's a great ******* record, I must say. The best debut album by a British female in quite a while. 3

Then it will take a spot from someone else from every other genre.

I mean who do you think is missing in either genre that has made more of an impact in the UK industry this last year? For once I don’t disagree with the noms. If the artist has released songs that are favourable in their respective genre they should be recognised no? Regardless of how many times.

I don’t know as I am not British but I’m sure there’s more than 5 pop or r&b artists that could get in for 2023? Anyway, it is amazing that she had such an amazing year that she could get in both categories for some reason but it still doesn’t make much sense to me
Bethenny Frankel Posted January 25 Posted January 25 she totally deserves it, if you get a chance to see her live please do. she put on one of the best shows I've ever seen last year. 1 1
tartarsauce Posted January 25 Posted January 25 This is so very much well deserved. I'm not even from the UK, but I know being nominated for a brit is a huge accomplishment. She's making history with 7 nominations as an independent artist! Wow! My 21st Century Blues was my top favorite album of 2023. She is a gem. I really hope she takes home something, if not all seven. Once again congrats to Raye. 1
Raphy23 Posted January 25 Posted January 25 radio in Canada is still spamming Escapism daily. She really did that and with no label

If a "pop" girl is making better R&B music than another R&B-only artist, why shouldn't they be nominated? The other should be embarrassed like... that's all you do hon. OT: A queen, glad she proved that independant artists can still get hits and make waves in awards ceremonies. She's always been talented, Charli knew.

She's always been talented, Charli knew. Then maybe she should be in R&B since she makes such great music in that genre. Ultimately I don’t care that much and nothing will make me change my mind. Still very happy for her, her album is one of my favorites of the last year
