Fly786 Posted January 21 Posted January 21 Bruno Mars just announced a 2024 concert at the Singapore National Stadium. Due to demand, a second and third date was added. Looking at the seating map (below), he is only using a portion of the stadium’s capacity. So why add 2 additional shows, and not just adjust and use the stadium’s full capacity? For reference, artists who use the full capacity of Singapore National Stadium average 50,000 attendees. Artists who use the half capacity average 25,000-30,000 attendees.
Sheep Posted January 21 Posted January 21 (edited) The answer to this is a boring logistics issue that probably involves some combination of not enough demand for a single full capacity show and the fact that he's touring through stadiums in SEA and already will have a freestanding stage that wouldn't fit other available venues. This, it’s gotta be logistics. It’s all about money. If they could get 3x the amount of people in that stadium in one night and cut down the cost of having to do three shows, they absolutely would. 1

Mr. Mendes Posted January 21 Posted January 21 (edited) He's not the first artist to do a show with this configuration in this exact venue. What seems to be the consistent reasons for this is: 1. A stage that is too big to fit inside of the other venues in the city. Singapore doesn't really have a venue that's between a theatre and the stadium like other countries do, so the choice for artists who attract bigger crowds is typically this stadium even if they're not using it capacity. 2. Because of that, the demand for tickets is usually about the demand for an arena show not a stadium show. They will have the stage set up to work for a capacity similar to that of playing an arena date. It so happened there was a demand for more shows, but it was probably not possible for them to completely redo the layout to make it one big stadium show once they'd sold a shows worth of tickets in a completely different seating arrangement. A lot of the times with these artists increasing the dates make them seem more popular, not every date was sold out in Tokyo, either. It's logistics/marketing a bunch of stuff. Kiss It Better Posted January 21 Posted January 21 slightly off topic, but it's so funny to me he's touring with no new album in 7 years, and no don't tell me about silk sonic cause he's not even performing silk sonic songs on this tour other than LTDO which is part of a medley
C-Amber Posted January 21 Posted January 21 (edited) I've seen many artists do this in Asia, for example last year Harry Style concert in the same stadium had the same seating plan, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Billie Eilish, Maroon 5 as well. Richest country in the region. Plus, with Taylor Swift specifically, they probably entered into some sort of exclusivity agreement for her to only perform in Singapore (and not other S.E.A. countries) to attract tourism dollars. The national stadium is also a world class venue that is purpose-built to hold concerts, compared to other stadiums in the region. It also "helps" that Singapore's neighbours (Malaysia and Indonesia) have very strict anti-LGBT laws which makes these countries not as attractive relative to Singapore given heavy censorship.
Popboi. Posted January 22 Posted January 22 His stage is small and most stadiums he's been doing have been in the 30-40k range for this tour. Selling 80-90k tickets from these 3 shows would be easier than 100k from 2 full capacity shows.
chiliam Posted January 22 Posted January 22 Harry did 33k attendance with the same layout in the same venue. I think the reason is their production is cheap, the stage is small. If with normal verticle set up, people in the back literally cannot see anything. So they have to do a horizontal layout like that.
