When she was looking at the pictures from her 9th birthday and there was this short flash of Longlegs from the beginning of the movie. I was punching the air. :ahh:

Spoiler

I was waiting for you to say this because I literally jumped in my seat at that part :rip:

Surprised by some of the responses here tbh! But I didn't really pay attention to the marketing so I didn't have super high expectations, I just knew it was getting praise but went in mostly blind and OMG, the whole thing absolutely terrified me! Like my body feels achy because of the constant dread I felt throughout :priceless: I've been consuming a lot of horror content the last couple of weeks so i'm sure that that didn't help! It won't be everyone's thing and I do think it could've improved in some places but for the pure fear it's put in me I have to give Ms Longlegs her 10s!

People who said this wasn't scary were lying or don't get scared because its kept me up at night. I keep thinking of the polaroid scene. I still wanna rewatch it though, so many background details I missed.

I did the same and it was overwhelming :jonny5: I felt like I had the same psychic flash as Lee did when she saw his face.

Omgggg chile I was an absolute nervous wreck. I think I would've had a more enjoyable experience just taking half but from the moment it started I was on EDGE. Nic was terrifying as LONGLEGS. For me it was the scariest film since Hereditary.

I completely agree. :rip: That opening scene was so clever. Just his first line and the way it ended made me feel the same as you. I really couldn't breathe at some points

I have something embarsssing to admit. I actually walked out 20 mins in. I was just far too scared to see it through. Going to go see it again today with no edibles lol

there were individual pieces that worked but I don't know if it worked as a whole

Maika and Nic and Alicia all did what they needed to do though

I love the sound of Maika's heavy wheezing when she's scared :hoetenks:

Saw this tonight and.. not seeing the hype for this one.

First of all, the highlights: the acting and the atmosphere. Nic Cage ate down as Longlegs. Maika was good, but it kinda seems her performance is getting a little overpraised too cause she was giving Kristen Stewart in Twilight but better for me. The eerie atmosphere is really the only thing that makes the movie scary imo so big ups for that.

The cons though, the plot seemed like it didn't really know where to go with the movie, since there were quite a few unanswered questions by the end and for a movie with a lot of mystery in it, there didn't really feel like a good payoff by the end because of those unanswered questions. Second, it's just… not scary? I'm not sure how this terrified people, but it reminds me of when people said Nope was terrifying and it wasn't at all. I guess some people just get scared off of "vibes" alone because that is the only thing I could see scaring people. However, making a movie off scary vibes doesn't really work for me because by the end it felt like that initial experience of spooky atmosphere had worn off.

6.5/10 imo

The longer I sit with this, it's just really giving bad case of Silence of the Lambs, Fincher, Villeneuve fanboy tribute project without being anywhere near as good or adding anything new.

I genuinely cannot think of a single unanswered question in this movie lmao, unless its like... trying to dissect every little thing and leaving ambiguity and metaphor at the door

agree, but also the more I sit with Nic's performance the more I think I loved it

he just needed a better overall movie for it

The Big Picture podcast interviewed the Oz Perkins and he said a couple times he felt like he lowkey was failing Nic and i'm like....... you're kinda right babe

There's been a few posts about it but some that I had were:

Spoiler

Why did Longlegs target a family with no father if all the other families had one?

Why did he name himself Longlegs?

What were those dolls/how did the devil magic work?

How did Harker not know about the man in her basement?

Did the FBI chief not realize his own daughter's birthday was the 14th?

Idk, maybe there's no answers and I should just accept that they didn't address everything and move on, but I'm not a big fan of leaving things to interpretation unless that's intentionally part of the plot. In such a mystery driven movie, I'd expect more answers and payoff but there wasn't for me.

I'm going to try to answer some of these from my memory

Spoiler

- This is the one where I'm not sure actually lmao. My guess is that he didn't know somehow OR that he did it intentionally to lure Harker's mother into his schemes. He talks about offering things in the interrogation. Her being more vulnerable without "a man in the house" would make sense

- in the first scene he says "it seems like I wore my long legs today!" It's a play on how tall he is, especially in front of a young Lee. The director himself said he just likes the name and that it doesn't mean anything, though.

- the dolls were merely the vehicle for the orbs, those are what are actually causing this. he is a doll maker. that's just something he does. the orbs are left ambiguous on purpose, but they are satanic, clearly. I prefer they don't show it explicitly because then it would become too "logical" in a movie that becomes very atmospheric.

- she has a suppressed mind. remember that she has been under the dolls spell for most of her life. when Ruth destroys it, we get an exposition in the form of a tale she tells Lee in bed. It's the movies way of showing how her memory's come back to her. You can see this in Maikas performance imo.

- I don't remember clearly but I think it's brought up when Lee cracks the algorithm. My guess is that the movie wanted the audience to know in the back of their heads so that when it happens, it makes sense. But it wouldve given too much away if it were made a bigger deal. I think this was just a script writing choice.

ANYWAY hdhsjjs what you said definitely makes more sense now! I totally can see how the movie kind of jarring shifts into a very different lane than what comes before it and how that would be jarring. Maybe some of the explanations are useful!

That's a good video if people still have questions about some of the meaning or possible "plot holes".

I swear, i am either going insane or they put something real demonic into this movie and its soundtrack. Ever since i watched "Longlegs", i have nightmares (where i scream and can't move), i always wake up between 3 and 4 am, see flashes of demonic faces in my head and my whole body hurts. I am so close to looking for a priest, i'm not kidding.

I know, but i think you're awake during sleep paralysis. In this case, i was still asleep and dreaming that i was awake, couldn't move and were screaming and then i woke up normally.

He's made very inspired career choices in recent years. I'd be here for him to have an acclaimed performance and snatch another Oscar nomination! :clap3:

I think we need to have a convo about what a "scary movie" is to people. not dragging you at all here, but ive seen this exact sentiment about this movie a LOT on twitter, basically like "well... it wasn't scary, but it was disturbing/creepy/unnerving" and I just think... isn't that a scary movie? is "scary" just a more intense version of all those things? because you said "not as scary". because if not, then im left wondering what "scary" would be. idk ive been thinking about this a LOT, especially with the reaction to this movie lmao
