Hector Posted January 16 Posted January 16 Yikes. So heavily delayed, it drew such low viewership. No suspense, no ratings!
vale9001 Posted January 16 Posted January 16 Right now people are focused on movie award season. Anyways after a peak era television now is boring. Cinema is again more intriguing and more talked about.
Feanor Posted January 16 Posted January 16 They really had all odds stacked against them: Delayed due to the strikes, broadcasted on a Monday night, going against an NFL playoff game and the Iowa caucus coverage and the 3 big-winning shows were already awarded at two other awards shows just in the past week or so. Still, the Emmys getting less than half the viewers the Golden Globes got is just shocking. As much as people wanted to cancel them, it's clear that the Globes have great drawing power. 3
Stepfon Posted January 16 Posted January 16 The show actually was really good and had good production value. They just need to stop having award shows on Monday nights and also the delay from the strike didn't help, it was basically The Bear, Beef and Succession show. 2
JoJo Posted January 16 Posted January 16 The GGs and the CC awards made it obvious that Succession, The Bear, and Beef would sweep, so there really wasn’t much of a point in watching the same speeches for the third time in two weeks. I’m sure it wouldn’t have received record low ratings if the 2023 Emmys happened last year. 2 1
Taylena Posted January 16 Posted January 16 They didn't have the NFL and Golden Globes' ratings magnet, Ms. Taylor Swift. 4 1
lovely88 Posted January 16 Posted January 16 Probably because it was a Monday night and went against NFL and Iowa caucus coverage.
_Fey Posted January 16 Posted January 16 People weren't going to tune in on a Monday night to watch the same people win the same awards they just won in two other award shows. 3
Triton Posted January 16 Posted January 16 Ehhh, it had everything going against it. Next show should be better

NFL lead in for Golden Globes really helped them . There’s a big overlap in audience (eg older people ). They needed to leverage nfl instead of trying to compete with it.

Barbenheimer was the cultural social event of the year with the eras tour. This Is why Golden globes made that big. In general movies are again strong in conversations, see Saltburn in the last month. Oscar will have a big audience too this year because of that. No One cares about The bear and Succession. They are not GOT or breaking bad. They are for niches. Cinema is again more relevant than television. Edited January 16 by vale9001 1
imabadkid Posted January 16 Posted January 16 I used to watch all of these shows every year but idk I'm over it atp. It's tired... it's boring... Hollywood needs to do smth because it's just not giving what it used to give.
Leptine Posted January 16 Posted January 16 Awards ceremonies are just boring and I'm saying this as someone interested on awards that has watched majority of conteders, staying hours watching a ceremony with boring speeches for the majority that gets punctually interrupted every 5 minutes with ads is just tiring.
Scandalous Posted January 16 Posted January 16 boring sweeps from mid shows like succession and the bear 2
Darius Posted January 16 Posted January 16 IDK anyone who watches award shows, tbh. I just see if my faves won and catch the rest of the highlights on social
GagaChina Posted January 17 Posted January 17 Emmy is boring now miss the days when friedns sex and city will and grace malcom in the middle killin each other
byzantium Posted January 17 Posted January 17 These shows used to be freely available for everyone for free. Now they are not. Of course they are going to have decreased viewership. I still don’t understand why they don’t have a free livestream on their website.

Mandalore Posted January 17 Posted January 17 How many times can you watch the same people win the same awards in the space of 1 week? Because it was like 3 award shows in a row. Also final day of NFL wildcard round. Whoever scheduled it is a moron. 1
Bewitched Posted January 17 Posted January 17 (edited) Look I get it nobody watches award shows live anymore I still have cable and enjoy watching award shows live Edited January 17 by Bewitched 1
