spree Posted January 17 Posted January 17 I mean....just less than a year ago the Walmart that i go to had ZERO self checkouts, now about 80% of the lines are self checkout with maybe 2 or 3 people actually working the registers. Where did those other people go to? The deli? Stocking? Laid off? of course there is always someone at the door looking for receipts and I'm like "if you had a human scanning your items you wouldn't be needing someone at the door." Cuz the self checkouts are VERY susceptible to theft. I would even argue theft has gone up, so that offsets those lost workers wages.

We need to fund lawyers-laws and fight now or thousands of millions will go to the streets and then you lost track of it how many times does the system have to do its thing before people wake up? how are laws enacted now? are they constructed to protect people or to limit their freedom (even further than they already do)? the system is extremely corruptible, no matter how much the liberals weirdly want to gaslight everyone else on the contrary. the people who make laws are going to make them synergically with the wishes of the people who give them the most money, and those are not your average working class persons. the root of the problem is not wack ass people like Trump or DeSantis that use the power they are granted by the system to do foul stuff, the main problem is the system itself allowing people like them to take control of huge amounts of power in the first place. the system, including the state (or the nation-states as we know them now), is not broken, it is working as intended. it is meant to concentrate power into a few hands, making everyone else suffer inevitably as a result. that is by design.

They said it was still cheaper to have the self checkouts with even theft going on than it was to hire people. So they dont seem to care. I knew a few boys and girls who are always taking an item or two from ms walmart becauses of self checkout

You would know this was the Industrial Revolution, followed by the Digital Age. In this timespan. People said the same thing about technology changing too rapidly. But what happened was people lived longer, worked less hours, politics became increasingly more progressive, and familial dynamics changed. I guess if I had to make it easier for you. I can use a shorter time span of 1900 to 1950.
Joyride Posted January 19 Posted January 19 with the amount of layoffs announced last year I am not surprised
Sombre Posted January 19 Posted January 19 This is worrisome to me cause in this day and age, the majority of people are living paycheck to paycheck. We don't have the leisure to be unemployed for a long time, even if we're trying to "adapt" or learn new skills.
