GentleDance Posted January 12 Posted January 12 https://pitchfork.com/reviews/tracks/ariana-grande-yes-and/ Pop’s Teflon princess is improvising her way out of a scandalous press cycle. January is where major films go to flop. Pop stars are a different story: After years dominated by Miley Cyrus’ “Flowers” (January 12), The Weeknd’s Dawn FM (January 7), and Olivia Rodrigo’s “Drivers License” (January 8), it feels like anything could happen this week. Nobody needs the narrative shift more than Ariana Grande, whose on-set romance with Wicked costar Ethan Slater is the headline that just keeps headlining. But she theater-catchphrased herself out of a sticky tabloid situation once before, so why not go for an encore? The chipper new single “yes, and?” cribs the golden rule of improv for a lightweight dance shuffle with a few barbed words for the critics, culminating in the line, “Why do you care so much whose ! I ride?” The critics, depicted in the video as a bunch of frumpy whiners, are all predictably won over by the end. Close your eyes, tap your heels together three times, and repeat Madonna’s ad-lib from the top of “Vogue”: What are you lookin’ at?

Blue Monday Posted January 12 Posted January 12 The way they called this a review but didn't even really critically engage with the song itself 6 4
Zefierce Posted January 12 Posted January 12 Teflon? Did they go out of their way to dig through a list of adjectives to find that word?
Archetype Posted January 12 Posted January 12 That's not a song review, more like a "she put out a song" 7

It's not an adjective tho. except it is (as others have already mentioned) denoting someone whose reputation remains undamaged in spite of scandal or misjudgement. modifier noun: Teflon "acquittal earned him the nickname ‘the Teflon Don’"

Dolce Vita Posted January 12 Posted January 12 i've noticed the majority of p4k reviews talk in-depth about the artist's lore + the cultural landscape of the song's release instead of actually reviewing the song in question 1
Venice B Posted January 12 Posted January 12 Teflon as in those teflon pans that won't let things stick in them? Are they trying to say the song won't stick?
M.R. Posted January 12 Posted January 12 They can’t even drag the song properly because Condé Nast owns them.

shookspeare Posted January 12 Posted January 12 Does anyone even read p4k reviews they literally never say anything. just look at the number or if it got BNT/BNM and go 1
