The Music Industry Posted January 11 Posted January 11 UP to offer course on Taylor Swift Quote Cherish Aileen Brillon of the UP College of Mass Communication told PhilSTAR L!fe that the elective under BA Broadcast Media Arts and Studies, which she will teach in the second semester of A.Y. 2023–2024, “focuses on the conception, construction, and the performance of Taylor Swift as a celebrity and how she can be used to explain our and, of course, media’s relationship with class, politics, gender, race, and fantasies of success and mobility.” “There have been many courses about Taylor Swift in universities abroad and I think there hasn’t been one in the Philippines yet,” Brilon said, adding that it’s “a bit surprising” as the country is “a Taylor Swift nation” based on many Filipinos being among her top listeners on various streaming platforms. Another one in the basket 5 1

Strawberry Bubble Posted January 11 Posted January 11 And before anyone says this is stupid: universities have offered courses about Madonna, Beyonce, Harry Styles and even about Bad Bunny in the past. It is not the end of the world if Taylor receives academic recognition too 5
Brooklyn Baby Posted January 11 Posted January 11 This won't suffice because Asian countries don't count on ATRL 3 3
Specter Posted January 11 Posted January 11 This is stupid. It feels like the end of the world that Taylor is receiving academic recognition too. 1
dussel_06 Posted January 11 Posted January 11 It’s bizarre that we have Rizal courses in universities but not Taylor Swift. UP is getting on the right track. I studied on one of the top universities and they still teach theology and Catholicism even on engineering students.
rihannasbe$tfrnd Posted January 11 Posted January 11 They should make a course on her father and how much time and money he spent to launch her career those emails were a KII 1

Axolotl Posted January 11 Posted January 11 Omg, that's where I went to for college. I should go back for Masters and see if I could take that class as en extra elective.

At least UP is secular so we didn't have to do the Catholic stuff, but I agree on the Rizal courses.

You did it. You finally broke her. You won. You destroyed someone. Someone who was always happy, always smiling. Someone who didn’t deserve any of the hate. Someone who didn’t do anything but help other people. Someone who loved with all their heart. ... Edited January 11 by Strawberry Bubble
Pendulum Posted January 11 Posted January 11 A joke. I'm sorry but Taylor's lyricism is not that impactful that it would constitute a course on its own. Neither do Beyoncé or whoever. Their cultural impact and lyricism can be discussed in another courses but having a single course centred around someone as Taylor Swift is ludicrous. 1
