spiritboy Posted January 7 Posted January 7 ISIS attacked Turkey many times as well despite majority of Turkey belongs to Sunni sect. It's really depressing to see some countries actively encourage and support terrorism, i don't know what will happen when America & co withdraws entirely (not that it will ever happen) from Middle East.

They want to be the ones running everything. Well that's true. The dynamics in the region are too complex and Islamic groups have different relationships with Iran depending on the situation. But on a broader level, almost all Sunni groups are unequivocally against Iran's Shiite government. I doubt either side views the other as Muslim, so that religious divide alone justifies the attack carried out by ISIS, which are known to be Sunni extremists. There's also the fact that Iranian-aligned Shiite militiamen have been fighting ISIS in certain parts of Iraq throughout the last decade, that could be related too. So that explains why ISIS still has a bone to pick with them.

This **** is so complicated and confusing. Once I think I have a grasp of the mess that is the Middle East, sth like this happens and I'm back to zero. Different muslim sects+ ISIS is more political than religious anyway
