igninton Posted January 11 Posted January 11 Watched Emilia Perez yesterday. Zoe carried that movie and she deserves that Oscar like no one else does this year. Really rooting for her. 3

The difference being that half the cast (Saldana, Gomez) is already known to USA audiences/voters. And given the subject matter, and the praise KSG is receiving, it would be kinda weird to leave her out 3

hausofdave Posted January 12 Posted January 12 I know it's just AACTA and stats are always meant to be broken, but they consistently go 3/5 or 4/5 every year. curious to see if either Kidman or Winslet make BAFTA. If one of them make BAFTA then the stat potentially continues with one of them joining Gascon and Madison (if you believe those two are safe). It could go 1/5 or 2/5 this year for sure, but BAFTA might be particularly helpful if either of them sneak in.
Donquizote Posted January 12 Posted January 12 All first time nominee line up that comprise of Mikey, Demi, Karla, Fernanda, and Pamela are not realistic to me. Lead Actress category usually has returning nominee. That's why I'm thinking Winslet/Erivo/Kidman/MJB is not done yet.
kimberly Posted January 12 Posted January 12 The Brutalist was phenomenal. Easily a contender for my favorite of this year's (likely) BP nominees. 1
hausofdave Posted January 12 Posted January 12 If you have just one nominee and 4 newcomers you have to return to 1966. If you have 5 newcomers you have to return to 1970. So technically 5 newcomers is closer, but then just 2 years ago, we had the first Actor lineup with 5 newcomers (Butler-Fraser-Farrell-Nighy-Mescal) since 1932, and the year before a full lineup with 5 prior nominees (Bardem-Garfield-Cumberbatch-Washington-Smith), which didn't happen since 1980.
