Glad to see Demi, Pamela, and Zoe getting so much attention this season after years of being underestimated :clap3: I kinda predict the same will happen with Cameron Diaz in the next few years

browsing through gold derby's combined predictions...

The Brutalist has toppled Anora for BP. the margins are very small — Conclave, Emilia Perez and Wicked are still virtually tied for third.

the big news is Demi Moore shooting up to tie Karla Sofía Gascon in second place. Mikey Madison is still leading by a small margin.

let's see where things go from here when we get the SAG nominations in just over 12 hours.

I just watched Emilia Perez, and I'm a little shocked by its win. It was kinda bad? It's almost endearing in how comically silly and cringe it was.

It really is the Crash of this awards season. In a few years people will look back and wonder what the hell were they thinking. On top of the many problems this movie has there's also the fact that NOBODY has watched it in the real world, the GP literally has no idea what this movie even is :rip:

I'm so sick and tired of those unknown overhyped movies getting so many awards, it's one of the reasons why so few people take awards seriously these days, they're so out of touch with regular people. Naomi Scott gave an incredible performance in Smile 2 (a movie that was well received and commercially successful) but she's not even nominated for anything because it's a horror movie and awards are complete snubs when it comes to that, it drives me crazy :rip:

Emilia Perez getting more recogniton than The Substance really shows how much of a out of touch joke the whole thing is :toofunny3:

Emilia Perez is the industry plant of film. :rip:

It will be interesting if it wins the Oscar to see how the GP responds to it since as you said nobody from the GP has actually seen it. To my knowledge, EP didn't crack the top 10 on Netflix when it premiered. The only people talking about it are Film Twitter (they despise it), critics (divisive, some really hate it) and the industry (they love it). Idk who the movie is for? Conservatives will hate it, the left will hate it, Americans won't watch a movie with subtitles (lol), Trans community will hate it, Mexicans have said they hate it..It will age poorly because it's not for anyone, except the industry I guess. I didn't hate it though, it was okay. Performances are the best part. Not something I would consider BP nomination worthy nevermind a win.

SAG Predicts:

Ensemble: Emilia Perez, Conclave, Sing Sing, A Complete Unkown, The Piano Lesson

Actress: Karla Sofia Gascon, Cynthia Erivo, Mikey Madison, Demi Moore, Angelina Jolie

Actor: Ralph Fiennes, Adrien Brody, Timothee Chalamet, Colman Domingo, Hugh Grant

Supporting Actress: Zoe Saldana, Ariana Grande, Isabella Rosselini, Selena Gomez, Margaret Qualley

Supporting Actor: Kieran Culkin, Guy Pearce, Edward Norton, Clarence Maclin, Jonathan Bailey

Stunts: No1curr, Wicked and Dune should show up here, maybe Monkey Man does

- I feel weird predicting Piano Lesson to get into Ensemble but not get Deadwyler in, but its fairly common for them to have lone Ensemble nominees (Parasite and Black Panther won as lone nominees) and it feels like such an obvious SAG choice even if the film is floppy. The main reason I have Deadwyler out is because I think EP and Substance will show strength here and get Gomez and Qualley in, but both could very well miss, and she could easily get in.

- I'm not totally sure about Wicked in Ensemble. Aside from the core duo and Bailey it's... Yeoh, Goldblum, and Yang playing themselves, Peter Dinklage voicing a goat, and SpongeBob. :suburban:Maybe it gets in anyway just because it's a big hit musical and I'm overthinking it.

- I think His Three Daughters could surprise somewhere.

- While I've become more considerate towards the idea of Anora getting into Ensemble and/or Supporting Actor here, I've been feeling a lone Mikey nom for most of the season and I'm just gonna stick with it. We'll see.

- I really want to predict Stan in Actor but I think he'd split his vote too much here. I have Grant going 4/4 ala Eddie Redmayne for The Good Nurse.

- Sing Sing has to happen here to be strong for the Oscars, and it should unless A24 totally f*cked up. :suburban:

- It's realistically not happening, but I think Nicolas Cage has a non-zero chance of randomly showing up for Longlegs.

- When September 5 payolas its way into Ensemble :suburban:

- Amy or Zendaya could show up

Edit: I just realized I left Denzel out dddd, I guess he replaces Bailey or maybe Pearce

bafta, being John malkovich

they're still not technically considered Oscar winners in the Academy's records which is absurd

well best picture doesn't go to the director unless they produce. so the likes of ridley Scott and Rob Marshall are Oscarless

She had a few years where she was offered really good dramatic work but she still kinda got typecast later in her career.

I think Amy Adams can get into SAG. She has alphabetical name advantage.

I know a lot of people hate Emilia Pérez (i thought it was awesome) but let's also be aware that if the film twitter folks had their way, something as incredibly dull as Sing Sing would be in the top 3 for best picture :rip:

I'm sorry but in this instance, i'm with the industry.

Also not the random populist posts on here.

Wait, DGA noms are tomorrow/today too damn :deadbanana4:

Directing: The Brutalist, Anora, Wicked, Conclave, Emilia Perez

First-Film: Nickel Boys, All We Imagine As Light, Sing Sing, A Different Man, Janet Planet

- Will be interesting to see if Emilia Perez gets in here. It doesn't really have to, but it would be a major sign of strength. The Susbstance of Dune could replace it.

- First Film is stacked. Like even more competitive than their main category. I'd love to see Problemista make it in. Didi has a solid chance as does Woman of the Hour and Monkey Man.

Can't believe that we'll find out Oscar nominees next week and the campaign period will be so long until March :deadbanana4:

Anything can happen during that time.

This year SAG won't be a factor, but BAFTA is.

I am nervous for Ari tbh. I don't believe these AMPAS members :deadbanana4:

Though Mikey is doing well with critics I think SAG is gonna overwhelmingly vote for Demi atp and that might just let her win considering the correlation with SAG and the Academy the past few years

this was fascinating to watch and well-timed. Coralie is coming :jonny6:

SAG usually loves to award veteran actress.

I finally saw Wicked and it thought it was very cute and translated very well to screen. Didn't gag me overall but Defying Gravity was awesome. With that said, none of that acting was Oscar worthy. I can maaaaybe see Cynthia's being nom worthy but not Ari's. Neither were bad at all though!

I feel like the only way Ariana misses is if voters decide to snub her because of her personal life (Ethan Slater situations:wan:)  Usually I'd think this was more likely at SAG than at the AMPAS, given the way the SAG panel has a chance to include more "regular people/semi professional actors" but then again Wicked is SAG catnip on paper and I have her as my number #2.
=======

It will be interesting in the grand scheme of things to see if Torres snatches the nom or not. GGs were held on the 6th, the AMPAS voting period is between 8th and 12th and she is on Jimmy Kimmel on the 9th.

I just know if she is snubbed Brazilian twitter will burn the timeline into the ground:grump:

With his upcoming Broadway show, it's crazy how Kieran Culkin has the chance to complete the Triple Crown of Acting in like... two years?
