I'm feeling an all white lineup for Actress with big backlash. Hopefully MJB can shock us all..

While I love Jean-Baptiste in HT, I don't see her getting nominated. She reminds me of Sally Hawkins in HGL. One note performance and annoying character. I think she is just a critic thing.

I feel like Gascón might get left out from the upcoming noms (SAG, BAFTA, and Oscars). :michael:

Gascon just won Capri and EFA.

Plus she basically hits every precursor. She's locked.

Apparently Ari is in 45 percent of wicked pt one per screentimecentral

Saldana 44

Qualley 41

All clear leads

Finally! I hear Zendaya (mixed with maybe Madison, very confusing tbh), Moore and obviously Jolie,.. great line-up so far

the allure of nominating Ingrid Bergman's daughter will be too irresistible for the Academy to pass up, although a SAG snub wouldn't surprise me

Frankly, I'm tired of these frauds :biblio:

All of them should've been campaigned for lead and the Academy must've more clear rules about category placements.

Watched Anora yesterday. Mikey Madison's performance is excellent and this is a star-making role. I can see her winning the BA Oscar because it's the kind of first-nomination performance that wins. The ending was perfect and emotionally resonant.

However, I think Baker thought he was making a Billy Wilder film, in which case he should have been ruthless in the editing room and cut 30 minutes. There was no excuse for the movie to run 2:18. It felt bloated at points, and would have been much more enjoyable at 1:45 or so. Baker definitely didn't need to spend 45 minutes on the setup, and the second act (the search for Ivan) could also have been trimmed considerably with zero impact on plot.

I contrast this with Parasite, which has similar ingredients - a blend of screwball, violence and social commentary - as Anora, and ran 2:12. Yet it felt like a much shorter film than Anora because every single shot was precision-cut and necessary, with not an ounce of fat. Parasite was an easy BP win for me. Anora is not.

Netflix really said screw Gascon. they're barely  promoting her anywhere

I'm tired of the screen time conversation. can we have a little more nuance?

Wicked, based on the 1995 novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, tells the story of Elphaba. every single scene we see Grande's performance as Galinda, she's either with Elphaba, or talking about Elphaba. we get to learn about Elphaba's upbringing (which Galinda narrates) and witness Elphaba's radicalization throughout her life. we get to hear her inner monologue in songs like "I'm Not That Girl" and "The Wizard and I." we do not get to experience Galinda in this way AT ALL. because she isn't the lead.

yes, I do think Grande's performance is on the meatier side of "supporting," but it'd be a disservice to categorize her as a lead.

Qualley and Saldaña's characters are, similarly, vessels through which the story of the lead character's story is told. especially for The Substance, there's not a doubt in my mind about it being a "Demi Moore movie," per se. Qualley may be on the screen a lot but she doesn't have merely as many "acting" scenes as Moore. not all screen time is created equally.

that's an opinion, but many people feel differently regardless of screentime for all those films.

amongst other reasons, gaiinda's many lead noms for various productions of wicked.

anywho, 40+% this century:

Cate blanchett

Hailee steinfeld

Julia roberts

Alicia Vikander, Rooney mara

Emma stone

Maria bakalova

Jodie foster = 8

Poor Lopez thought Unstoppable could be an Awards vehicle but in the end her Netflix fodder once again came back to bite.

Danielle Deadwyler is kinda done. (SAG will probably nominate her though)

Even Selena Gomez made it over her on the BAFTA longlist

I feel the 5 nominees will be between these choices:

Zoe Saldaña, Emilia Pérez

Ariana Grande, Wicked
Felicity Jones, The Brutalist
Isabella Rossellini, Conclave
Margaret Qualley, The Substance
Selena Gomez, Emilia Pérez

It will be hilarious If Denzel gets snubbed this time after making BAFTA :suburban:

BAFTA Longlist are always interesting. They seems to LOVE the tedious Emilia Perez, it overperformed in BSA.

My current BA prediction are Madison, KSG and Moore, with Kidman, MJB and Erivo fighting for the last 2 spots but I'll think Kidman will miss
