Dark Horses:

- They push The Substance, Coralie Fargeat gets into Director

-They do something really unexpected in Editing, shot in the dark that Longlegs shows up

-Tilda Swinton gets a double mention for TRND and Problemista (not The End)

- Blitz shows up somewhere

- Part of me feels like Nickel Boys could have a bad day here

LAFCA made really good choices. I was ready for them to pull some nonsense with how long they were taking but Marianne Jean-Baptiste wins again, Mikey Madison and Yura Borisov win, Adam Pearson, Clarence Maclin and Demi Moore get notices (haven't seen the other winners' movies) :foxaylove:

Last two animated films to win these three were Spirited Away and The Incredibles, which were both the Oscar winner of their respective years.

Flow coming to pull an upset on Inside Out 2 and The Wild Robot? :ohwow:

The last person to miss BA after winning both LAFCA and NYFCC was Sally Hawkins in 2008 (ironically another Mike Leigh film). She's not a lock, but I feel much better about Baptiste than I did last week

What didn't you like about it?

I enjoyed it up until the ending, that was sort of nonsense :rip: no way would these highly ambitious and cunning folks vote for someone who they didn't even know existed a week ago, and if they found out he is intersex... well it's over

Yeah, the ending was silly. Before watching it I saw some tweets about the plot twist, so I was expecting something exciting to happen towards the end. My reaction to the reveal wasn't "wow", but more like "okay...?"
