They're all fads boo! Clock it when both their Picture winners lost 2 years in a row in 21 and 22.They kept up fake news Fabelmans. Only the awards body that nominated Sia's Music. Real numbers come in at BAFTA! 2
futurenostalgic Posted December 4, 2024 Posted December 4, 2024 Why is best actor race so dreadful this year? It's almost always mediocre, but fawkkkk. Where are the passion contenders from outside the race?.. Is there not even some small indie or foreign language film that could get some run and steal some wins? ok I guess that was Sebastian Stan for a bit, but they're awarding him for the wrong movie.
Donquizote Posted December 4, 2024 Posted December 4, 2024 EP needs to come through with critics awards I think Selena is DONE Ariana and ELLE rise
kimberly Posted December 4, 2024 Posted December 4, 2024 Wicked is a better film than Barbie and Ariana Grande's performance is much better than America Ferrera's messy performance, which got her the Oscar nom. if we're comparing the two blockbusters, it's very clear to me Grande should be nominated for her work. winning is a whole other discussion. 4

Maybe in a weaker year... Netflix will need to focus more with Industry awards and in phase 2 after noms are announced bc it's not a critic's darling. Edited December 4, 2024 by Blue Monday

Ariana's biggest competition is Zoe Saldana, but it's seeming like Emilia Perez is sinking like a stone with each passing day while Wicked is rising as a major contender in several different categories. If Emilia Perez doesn't connect with the industry/guilds, Ariana could easily sweep like Ariana DeBose did in 2021 for West Side Story 4
Blue Monday Posted December 4, 2024 Posted December 4, 2024 Is Kiernan Culkin really going to steamroll Best Supporting Actor this year? I do not understand the hype for that performance at all

Despite the fact that the film opens on him, ends with him, and he's in almost every scene 41 minutes ago, Blue Monday said: She was never a serious contender, the Cannes Best Actress award was a serious get but it was kind of obvious that Karla and Zoe were always going to be main recipients of that traction; the role just isn't the kind that demands a nomination. I'm not buying that Emilia Perez's momentum is dead until I see GGs 2

Karla Sofia Gascon - Emilia Perez 4. Marianne Jean-Baptiste - Hard Truths 5. Nicole Kidman - Babygirl (6. Demi Moore - The Substance) Still standing by this, but Erivo is at 6 instead of Demi, I just don't see it happening for her (sadly). If Erivo's taking someone's spot I hope it's Gascon's, saw Emilia Perez last week and I did not like it at all. The performances carry the film but honestly none of them Oscar-worthy imo (not even Saldana's), don't know what they were cooking at Cannes but I'm not seeing it, and to put Gascon in lead instead of Saldana, just doesn't make sense.

Agreed! Finally saw Wicked last night and Ariana steals every scene, don't know if Wicked is the better film (did not like some directing choices but overall still top tier of the year) but Grande's performance is certainly deserving of a nom 1

And it is by far the most irritating category fraud of the year. Pulling for Clarence Maclin or Guy Pearce to win some major awards. 2

His performance felt really grating to me throughout; felt like Roman Roy doing the "I'm a weirdo" monologue from Riverdale. Haven't seen Pearce or Maclin's movies yet but I've heard great things! My personal fave in BSA this year is Karren Karagulian from Anora who probably doesn't have a shot at anything this year. 2

He makes a stronger impression than Yura Borisov, to be honest. I guess people appreciated Yura's subtlety and internalized performance against the showier performances, but I still find this love for him very strange too. Edited December 5, 2024 by Hector

Hector Posted December 5, 2024 Posted December 5, 2024 AFI Top 10 Films of 2024: AFI Motion Pictures of the Year "Anora" (Neon) "The Brutalist" (A24) "A Complete Unknown" (Searchlight Pictures) "Conclave" (Focus Features) "Dune: Part Two" (Warner Bros.) "Emilia Pérez" (Netflix) "Nickel Boys" (Amazon MGM Studios) "A Real Pain" (Searchlight Pictures) "Sing Sing" (A24) "Wicked" (Universal Pictures)
hausofdave Posted December 5, 2024 Posted December 5, 2024 AFI has mostly a consensus lineup, so I wonder what Pundit Choice Awards will do for their BP lineup. they nominated Saltburn and The Color Purple. maybe replacing Nickel Boys or A Complete Unknown with The Substance? 1
