fridayteenage Posted October 12 Posted October 12 For Larrain's worst reviewed film, for someone with one lead nom?
KylieistBoi Posted October 13 Posted October 13 So I watched Anora today. As expected from Sean Baker it is an amazing movie. I still don't understand how it is the favorite to win many Oscars though.

I'd say probably because he has built a strong filmography in the indie circle that hasn't been properly recognized by the Academy. Haven't seen Anora yet so I'm excited!
MAXIMO Posted October 13 Posted October 13 Just watched The Apprentice, Jeremy Strong is coming for the Triple Crown of Acting (Emmy, Tony and Oscar) FAST. Sebastian Stan is fantastic too, but he ain't getting in for playing Trump.

fridayteenage Posted October 17 Posted October 17 (edited) Madison/Anora - great reviews (81+ on Metacritic), likely BP nominee Gascon/Emilia - likely BP nominee Jean-Baptiste/Hard Truths, Kidman/Babygirl - great reviews Jolie/Maria, Ronan/Outrun - biopic Moore/Substance Swinton/Room Next Door In the last 5 years, only Kirby (Volpi winner) got in without any of the 3. For 2015-2018 there was Close for The Wife. Edited October 17 by fridayteenage

Donquizote Posted October 18 Posted October 18 Seems like The Substance is getting lots of traction recently. Won't be surprised if Demi gets populist votes and nominated for Best Actress. Her movie is a box office hit. It is well received by audiences and Demi knows a lot of people at Hollywood. 2
fridayteenage Posted October 18 Posted October 18 (edited) Anora could be the 2nd Best Actress nominated film from this decade with a 90+ Metascore, after tar but I don't think it'll meet the same fate of 0 wins 70s-born Jessica/Dark Thirty 95, Olivia/Favorite 91, Amy/Hustle 90 80s-born Scarlett/Marriage 94, Emma/La La Land 94 90s-born Yalitza/Roma 96, Saoirse/Lady Bird 93, Saoirse/Women 91, Jennifer/Winter's Bone 90 Edited October 19 by fridayteenage 1

GiselleBeyince Posted October 19 Posted October 19 (edited) I am hearing nothing but great things about Naomi Scott's performance in Smile 2. Considering how weak this year is and how poor the acting categories are currently, I need her to get in somewhere. We need some interesting performances. This might be the first year in a longtime that I don't care about the top line nominees. There is no one really to root for. https://x.com/mcumagik/status/1847056676597219646?t=GCCKyekyU93NeVJDlEFXiA&s=19 https://x.com/3CFilmss/status/1846412390063079845?t=8oB_xpIyCelEs8OAaDoxHw&s=19 Edited October 19 by GiselleBeyince 1 3 1
Donquizote Posted October 19 Posted October 19 Naomi Scott will end up like Toni Colette in Hereditary. Rave performance in a box office hit movie, but somehow will get snubbed because of genre bias.
Rafael Posted October 19 Posted October 19 For the experts here, what are the chances of I'm Still Here making it? I'm rooting so hard for Fernanda Torres to get the Isabelle Hubert/ Marion Cotillard treatment 1

She just has to be the passion pick from the international voters like Sandra Huller was this year. 1
