fridayteenage Posted March 3 Posted March 3 (edited) This is the only half-decade that had less than 3 lead actress nominees under 30, with 1 (Mikey) for 2020-2024: 2015-2019 x8 2010-2014 x5 2005-2009 x6 2000-2004 x5 1995-1999 x4 1990-1994 x4 1985-1989 x3 1980-1984 x3 1975-1979 x3 1970-1974 x4 1965-1969 x8 1960-1964 x8 1955-1959 x6 1950-1954 x10 1945-1949 x5 1940-1944 x10 1935-1939 x9 1930-1934 x9 1928-1929 x2 Wonder how youthful the rest of the decade will turn out... fridayteenage Posted March 4 Posted March 4 the original poster said dune reviews are good, and LOTR reviews indicate their groundbreaking achievement. which is true. no one said mediocre. you're the one who said dune reviews were overwhelming, when they're good.
Lil' Oz Posted March 4 Posted March 4 Demi is getting so much press because of her loss. She's truly an A-list name, no wonder she was sitting front and center at the Oscars. Anyway, I hope they give her an honorary Oscar. Wishing Mikey well... now that the shock, sadness and disappointment has worn off XD. 1
Achilles. Posted March 4 Posted March 4 The funniest thing all night was Jacques Audiard lurking around the stage desperately trying to get to the mic while the songwriters hogged the moment. Also have to say this was possibly the best In Memorium presentation I've ever seen here. Every person's name and face was clearly displayed and an example of their work portrayed, and no musical act was there stealing the moment. It was the dignified tribute Dame Maggie deserved. The rest of the event was pretty lackluster. RDJ's presentation was annoying, Culkin's speech got pretty uncomfortable. Brody snatched Greer Garson's record was so… Mixed feelings on the fab 5 thing; it felt a bit like an excuse to put more stars on stage and missed the whole point of celebrating past winners, but it did feel like there was greater passion since the presenters came from the nominated films. Hilarious that the supporting presenters spoke about each nominee with no clips while the lead presenters made general statements before playing clips; KSG really screwed things up. And frankly, considering the positive reception she got in the room I don't know why they bothered; I guess no individual wanted the heat of supporting her, but they were willing to do it collectively. Overall the calibre of the presenters was lackluster (fitting, given the winners). The way they gave Mark Hamill that big entrance and nobody in the room moved was so embarrassing. The BP presenters being Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan; like I get that people love When Harry Met Sally, but Best Picture?? 1

So appropriate that the in memorium tribute was the highlight of the show the year my opinion of the Academy died. Spoiler Not really but it was too good of a joke to pass up. 1

I have this strong feeling in 10-15 years no one will be remembering „Anora" and everyone will be remembering „The Substance". Whether someone liked it or not, nobody was left with indifference. The movie changed the horror genre and The Academy nominating Demi for BA was a very unprecedented move these days especially after a streak of painful snubs (Toni Collette, you'll always be famous). 5
