It doesnt have wow factor like Parasite. I think it will do like Triangle of Sadness/Tree of Life. 1
McNulty Posted October 9 Posted October 9 Blitz reviews are good enough for BP nom and BSA for Ronan 1
Donquizote Posted October 9 Posted October 9 BSA prediction so far: Zoe Saldana Felicity Jones Isabelle Rossellini/one of His Three Daughters actresses Saoirse Ronan Danielle Deadwyler Sorry, I don't think Selena is happening
Kylizzle Posted October 9 Posted October 9 Anora will be happening. The fact it's a comedy doesn't matter in 2024. 1 1

Donquizote Posted October 10 Posted October 10 With Wicked shaping up to be a box office success, I think Cynthia can hit GG +SAG
fridayteenage Posted October 10 Posted October 10 (edited) it's been over 20 years since a broadway musical got in best actress, the only one in the last 50 years Edited October 10 by fridayteenage
ctlp27 Posted October 10 Posted October 10 Wicked will sweep their categories at GG. Not sure about lead actress nomination at the Oscar's mostly because it's part 1.

igninton Posted October 11 Posted October 11 'Wicked' is way too childish-looking for it to be even considered for serious awards. Y'all can forget about it except for the usual Golden Globes pandering.
fridayteenage Posted October 11 Posted October 11 even at the tonys wicked only did okay - musical loss score/book loss actress win supporting acting snub directing snub

GiselleBeyince Posted October 11 Posted October 11 This can't be the performance Netflix, Film Twitter, and Selena's PR is trying to sell us as being Oscar worthy? It can't be, right? What the hell is that Spanish? 1
McNulty Posted October 11 Posted October 11 Selena won't get nominated, the Academy will pay her dust just like JLO
EnigmaticAndroid Posted October 11 Posted October 11 I'd be willing to entertain Erivo happening at the Oscars if the show wasn't split into 2 parts, making her arc broken up too. The material she gets in Act 1, even if they expand the story, really isn't enough for an Oscar nomination imo. 1

Wicked basically got what it deserved. It's a shame that Caroline or Change got shafted so hard that season though. 1
X~MoviePoP Posted October 11 Posted October 11 When jlo gets in instead of selena > Karma for snubbing jlo for her performance in Selena. The reverse selena slayage

What the hell is that Spanish? is this the clip with Saldaña? they disabled because of copyright... if so then her spanish is more than fine, anyone who speaks and understands spanish fluently would be able to get what she is saying. I don't understand the outrage. the acting on the other hand doesn't seem to be quite good... but that's another topic.

It can't be, right? What the hell is that Spanish? She's playing a Mexican American character. Her Spanish isn't supposed to be as fluent as the other characters. That has been made clear multiple times so I don't understand the outrage? And as a native Spanish speaker, I understood every single word she said. I really don't get the outrage for this performance. This has been seen in many festivals and many critics and moviegoers have praised her left and right. There was no need for her to get the Cannes Best Actress award alongside her peers if her performance was truly bad. 3
