Yeah but it's more of a comedy and the second half drags heavy until the ending (which was great but getting there was a slog)

That's exactly my concern regarding this movie. It doesnt have wow factor like Parasite.

I think it will do like Triangle of Sadness/Tree of Life.

Now can't wait for reaction to The Summer Book :jonny5:

BSA prediction so far:

Zoe Saldana
Felicity Jones
Isabelle Rossellini/one of His Three Daughters actresses
Saoirse Ronan
Danielle Deadwyler

Sorry, I don't think Selena is happening :suburban:

Anora will be happening. The fact it's a comedy doesn't matter in 2024. :suburban:

With Wicked shaping up to be a box office success, I think Cynthia can hit GG +SAG :duca:

Wicked will sweep their categories at GG. Not sure about lead actress nomination at the Oscar's mostly because it's part 1.

Considering it is going up against Anora and Emilia Perez, I highly doubt it wins anything.

'Wicked' is way too childish-looking for it to be even considered for serious awards. Y'all can forget about it except for the usual Golden Globes pandering.

The loss to Avenue Q is the most shocking upset in history :lmao: This video explains it so well:

This can't be the performance Netflix, Film Twitter, and Selena's PR is trying to sell us as being Oscar worthy? It can't be, right? What the hell is that Spanish?

Selena won't get nominated, the Academy will pay her dust just like JLO

I'd be willing to entertain Erivo happening at the Oscars if the show wasn't split into 2 parts, making her arc broken up too. The material she gets in Act 1, even if they expand the story, really isn't enough for an Oscar nomination imo.

Tonys served taste tbh :giraffe:

Acclaimedvue Q really is a wonderful show that broke new ground for Bway. Wicked basically got what it deserved. It's a shame that Caroline or Change got shafted so hard that season though. :giraffe:

is this the clip with Saldaña? they disabled because of copyright... if so then her spanish is more than fine, anyone who speaks and understands spanish fluently would be able to get what she is saying. :deadbanana2: I don't understand the outrage. the acting on the other hand doesn't seem to be quite good... but that's another topic.

She's playing a Mexican American character. Her Spanish isn't supposed to be as fluent as the other characters. That has been made clear multiple times so I don't understand the outrage? And as a native Spanish speaker, I understood every single word she said.

I really don't get the outrage for this performance. This has been seen in many festivals and many critics and moviegoers have praised her left and right. There was no need for her to get the Cannes Best Actress award alongside her peers if her performance was truly bad.
