She is amazing in the movie and could easily become the second Black actress to win the Lead Actress Oscar, especially in such a weak-ish year. But no, she wants to commit the most massive category fraud since maybe Alicia Vikander? Stunning movie, Should easily sweep the GG C/M categories. The fact that Viola Davis (Fences) and Zoe Saldana (Emilia Perez) could be Lead Actress winners but they wanted an easier win in supporting. 1
fridayteenage Posted October 7 Posted October 7 (edited) I mean, so far Netflix has only gotten 1 acting win, for Laura Dern. nothing for picture or writing either. Edited October 7 by fridayteenage
Hector Posted October 7 Posted October 7 1 hour ago, fridayteenage said: The Outrun opens with under $1k per theater average. it's over alas. maybe Blitz? minimal box office without raves for the film is unlikely to get a nom. for movies released this century: tammy Faye $2.4 US box office/55 metascore – baity famous bio albert nobbs $3/57 – close had been trying to make the movie for over a decade since she did the role in the 80s rabbit hole $2.2/76 – the role won a Tony Jessica Lange won for Blue Sky almost 30 years ago and that movie only made $3.4 million.
Donquizote Posted October 7 Posted October 7 Newcomers like Hilary Swank, Brie Larson, and Charlize Theron had undeniable performance and either sweeps critics/televised awards to win Best Actress. Mikey needs to be undeniable and sweeps televised/TRIFECTA to win Oscar for Best Actress.
fridayteenage Posted October 7 Posted October 7 (edited) adjusted for inflation that would be over $6 million. and outrun is looking at maybe $1. it was also one of the worst years ever for actress with most of the nominees being solo. Edited October 7 by fridayteenage 1
Donquizote Posted October 7 Posted October 7 Saoirse got nominated for Best Actress when her movies performed well at both box office AND critical acclaim. Sorry, but I think she might get snubbed this time.

Almodusa Posted October 7 Author Posted October 7 Anything interesting from the San Sebastían and NY festivals?

Movies I've seen at the New York Film Festival so far in order: Nickel Boys The Brutalist Anora Rumours Maria Emilia Perez The Friend The Room Next Door Hard Truths A Real Pain The Shrouds Queer Not a stinker in the bunch (though Rumours was my least fave). My top 5 in order: Anora, Queer (divisive but I adored it), Emilia Perez, The Brutalist, The Room Next Door (with A Real Pain right behind). Will most likely conclude with Blitz, I'm Still Here, and Misericordia. 3
Donquizote Posted October 7 Posted October 7 Ronan's past Best Actress nominations (metacritic/box office run): Brooklyn: 88 metacritic/62.1M box office Lady Bird: 93 metacritic/79M box office Little Women: 91 metacritic/218.9M box office ------------ The Outrun: 73 metacritic/945K box office
Donquizote Posted October 7 Posted October 7 I don't see it for Mikey to win tbh. She will have uphill battle to win that Oscar as newcomer. Hilary won for that baity performance and the movie made lots of money at box office.
fridayteenage Posted October 7 Posted October 7 Anora likely getting a big pile of noms, vs. previous nominees getting solos or close to solos, will get it for her
Donquizote Posted October 8 Posted October 8 It's weird that Sean Baker has been making many good indie movies and yet still has not been nominated for Oscar
Donquizote Posted October 8 Posted October 8 Simon Rex should have been nominated for Red Rocket though 1
X~MoviePoP Posted October 9 Posted October 9 I think in the end we know whose winning best actress. Angelina 1
fridayteenage Posted October 9 Posted October 9 lol. ...Sean baker's biggest box office: $11 mil Florida Project, $1 mil Red Rocket Most people still don't know him.
Donquizote Posted October 9 Posted October 9 Low box office is not an excuse not to get nominated for Oscar 1
Donquizote Posted October 9 Posted October 9 This is what worrying me the most. I wonder how AMPAS members will react to Anora
lgaga1fan Posted October 9 Posted October 9 Watched Anora and idk how people think that's gonna win BP but Mikey will hopefully get Best Actress nominated at least
