Donquizote Posted October 3 Posted October 3 Lee now has 95% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes I know Queen won't get nominated, but this is truly a surprise that it is a hit among audiences Perhaps Queen should choose better acclaimed and GP-friendly project next time for second BA win
fridayteenage Posted October 4 Posted October 4 since her breakout, all of kate's movies with a 75+ on Metacritic got her an acting nom

Miles. Posted October 4 Posted October 4 I'm so excited seeing Zoe in the race this year! I've always loved her and found her really underrated. Glad she's finally getting recognized for her talent Would love something for Willa Fitzgerald too. Haven't seen Strange Darling yet but she deserves for the phenomenal work she did in Fall of the House of Usher 2
ctlp27 Posted October 5 Posted October 5 (edited) Well don't count the Oscar marketing campaign dead for J2. Variety is def sold to their case (hoping they'll get an actor on actors with LG to boost their engagement and reach) and is doing post-hate damage control (same for Deadline which until today was very tame on the BO prospects being reduced every projections). popmusicisdead Posted October 5 Posted October 5 just saw The Substance and Demi slayed so hard. aside from the Academy being allergic to horror films, i think the fact that her character was played by another actress for half the film might hinder her chances though. Spoiler i got chills during the Walk of Fame scene at the end 2

Hector Posted October 5 Posted October 5 The Room Next Door, wow Almodovar did it again! Julianne is fantastic in this but Tilda has the more emotional and showy moments and I do see her as a contender for the final 5 or at least close. The score, cinematography, and production design were great as well. An uncanny valley moment at the end I won't spoil either. 1
KylieistBoi Posted October 5 Posted October 5 Saw The Substance, The Room Next Door, and The Brutalist yesterday. I think Demi's chances are not that high but I'll keep her in my predictions to the bitter end. The movie was amazing The Room Next Door felt like a movie directed at middle-aged audiences for me. I can see it being a strong player especially at the Globes. Horrible movie though. The Brutalist felt EPIC If they can get people to sit through 3 hours and 35 minutes of it I don't see how it doesn't become the biggest frontrunner. Adrien Brody should be sweeping easily but this movie pretty much deserves everything too. I don't understand how there was a debate for Felicity Jones' category placement at the beginning 2
Liafen Posted October 5 Posted October 5 Saoirse is so real Spoiler for knowing she'll lose yet again
NoAngelus Posted October 5 Posted October 5 1 hour ago, Liafen said: Saoirse is so real Reveal hidden contents for knowing she'll lose yet again How she got 4 nominations in the first place is a mystery to me. Giving Amy Adams vibes
Donquizote Posted October 6 Posted October 6 Ronan should have won for Brooklyn though. Then AMPAS won't owe her anything to nominate her for every role. Giving Amy Adams vibe Btw, just watched His Three Daughters. The fact that everyone is sleeping on this movie Hoping for Olsen and Coon to pop out somewhere. They were sublime.
lgaga1fan Posted October 6 Posted October 6 Honestly I think Saoirse might win for The Outrun. Wouldn't be the first time a khia movie gets a win. Actually nvm Emilia Perez and Anora exist and will be BP contenders. 1

I think there's an actual outside shot for a GG nomination for Gaga if she campaigns in lead bc the category has a spot. Karla, Mikey, Cynthia Erivo, Demi Moore (?). Am I missing someone?

I would have also liked for Saoirse to win for Brooklyn (loveeee that very classic movie) and I can't wait to see The Outrun. It's odd to think Stone and Lawrence won before her, but Oscars are always about timing. 2
teresaguidice Posted October 6 Posted October 6 gaga has no shot. a movie like joker needs box office success to get in and the narrative of it being such a disappointment commercially means its dead in the water, even for song i think. the globes do all normie nominations now, they aren't nominating big stars from random panned movies like they used to so i don't see her even getting in there. 1 1
KylieistBoi Posted October 6 Posted October 6 Saw Emilia Perez last night. The fact that Zoe Saldana is commiting a massive category fraud makes me wanna root against her. She is amazing in the movie and could easily become the second Black actress to win the Lead Actress Oscar, especially in such a weak-ish year. But no, she wants to commit the most massive category fraud since maybe Alicia Vikander? Stunning movie, Should easily sweep the GG C/M categories.

Zoe is fantastic and I totally understand why people want her in Lead but I also get that Karla is the titular character and the story does center around Emilia more than anyone else. Karla was also fantastic and Selena gave much better acting than in Only Murders In The Building. And while your bolded statement rings true, we also had Viola Davis, Brad Pitt, and Mahershala Ali in Green Book right after her. Let's not forget Rooney Mara in Carol's nomination the very same year Vikander won. Saw Hard Truths, A Real Pain, and The Shrouds last night. Marianne Jean Baptiste is incredible. So much so that if she misses, I'll consider her a snub. A dynamite performance. Kieran Culkin is also spectacular but he is committing far more egregious category fraud campaigning in supporting, he's in the whole movie. And The Shrouds was better than expected, the screenplay is wild Very subdued for Cronenberg standards though. Edited October 6 by Hector 1

Karla was also fantastic and Selena gave much better acting than in Only Murders In The Building. I think there needs to be a distinction here. Emilia Perez is the main character of this movie, without a doubt. But the Lead Actress of the movie is Zoe Saldana, we get most things (maybe everything?) from her perspective. Saldana in Lead, Gascon and Gomez in Supporting would've been the better choice in my opinion. 7 hours ago, Hector said: And The Shrouds was better than expected, the screenplay is wild Except for the obsession with China/Russia I found it quite creative and original. I enjoyed it more than I expected as well. He'd be deserving of a screenplay nom for sure. 1
Donquizote Posted October 6 Posted October 6 Weird thing has happened recently at Oscar and actresses from panned movies/very divisive movies got nominated. Ana and Glenn got nominated for those panned movies. I won't discount Demi and Gaga yet. 1
hausofdave Posted October 6 Posted October 6 "conventionally attractive white man gets movie roles and awards" IS the dominant narrative in cinema
fridayteenage Posted October 7 Posted October 7 (edited) The Outrun opens with under $1k per theater average. it's over alas. maybe Blitz? minimal box office without raves for the film is unlikely to get a nom. for movies released this century: tammy Faye $2.4 US box office/55 metascore – baity famous bio albert nobbs $3/57 – close had been trying to make the movie for over a decade since she did the role in the 80s rabbit hole $2.2/76 – the role won a Tony Edited October 7 by fridayteenage
LastKiss Posted October 7 Posted October 7 The wild robot needs to win best animated movie! Otherwise the academy ain't shite
