And Judy Garland is about 100x more famous and adored than Maria in the us 1

Komet Posted August 29 Posted August 29 These Larrain flicks are cursed Jolie is a ******* legend and can prob cruise to a sole nom even if the rest of the movie is mediocre. However, this opening on MC with 60 something score during Venice makes me think it's worse than that. 1
KylieistBoi Posted August 29 Posted August 29 So excited to see this performance and how Angie fares for the rest of the season. 3 1

Those critics are simply can't stomach a non typical biopic that focused on particular tragic moment with depressive drama 2
Donquizote Posted August 29 Posted August 29 there's still a path for Angelina's win. Respected veteran. Acclaimed performance. Hopefully, she'll follow Meryl, Jessica, and Kate's win

It's where Maria should be strongest. If they didn't even like it all that much...

I agree, Kate should have not won for The Reader though. She should have won for Eternal Sunshine/ Rev Road. But she was overdue at that time. 1 1

But she was overdue at that time. i think what hurts Angelina that is that she doesn't have a strong storyline coming into this awards season with her already being an Oscar winner. unlike this Anora girl who's an up-and-comer (like Angelina herself in 2000) and Saoirse who's "overdue" like Kate in 2008 (for that terrible movie, SAINT deserved hihi but still not worse than that piece of sh*t movie Still Alice). maybe a comeback story like Renee with Judy, because she's been out of the awards circuit for over a decade?
