Not surprised,  though I am getting Renée Zellweger in Judy vibes from the clip that premiered yesterday plus Kristen Stewart was the only nomination for Spencer.

And Judy Garland is about 100x more famous and adored than Maria in the us

These Larrain flicks are cursed

Jolie is a ******* legend and can prob cruise to a sole nom even if the rest of the movie is mediocre. However, this opening on MC with 60 something score during Venice makes me think it's worse than that.

Most of the reviews are trashing movie itself not Angelina performance, nothing new with Pablo movies. Those critics are simply can't stomach a non typical biopic that focused on particular tragic moment with depressive drama:gaycat2:

I think she'll be nominated which to me is a win.

there's still a path for Angelina's win.

Respected veteran. Acclaimed performance.

Hopefully, she'll follow Meryl, Jessica, and Kate's win

Nah, Venice audiences were very into Jackie and Spencer. It's where Maria should be strongest. If they didn't even like it all that much... :rip:

Jessica was ok.

Meryl was bad in Iron Lady.

I agree, Kate should have not won for The Reader though. She should have won for Eternal Sunshine/ Rev Road. But she was overdue at that time.

Brendan Fraser won Best Actor in 2023 with The Whale at 64% on Rotten Tomatoes. Angelina (at the moment) is fine. The praise for her performance alone will get her to the Oscars as a nominee.

i think what hurts Angelina that is that she doesn't have a strong storyline coming into this awards season with her already being an Oscar winner.

unlike this Anora girl who's an up-and-comer (like Angelina herself in 2000) and Saoirse who's "overdue" like Kate in 2008 (for that terrible movie, SAINT deserved hihi EcRKKQy.thumb.png.b4fcf26ccee1154f2f304e but still not worse than that piece of sh*t movie Still Alice).

maybe a comeback story like Renee with Judy, because she's been out of the awards circuit for over a decade?

You know what :dies:

Yeah, it doesn't seem like Jolie is win competitive unforch. Nom is possible depending on how things shake out.

BA race still seems messy af

Angelina will be fine. Spencer was a bad SNL skit yet Stewart got a nomination.
