McNulty Posted February 22 Posted February 22 The Brutalist was very good, idk how to describe it but it has that classic Hollywood feeling. Stunning cinematography with an amazing score, I wouldn't mind seeing Corbet or anyone from the acting trio win at the Oscars, they absolutely deserve it 5

Life Savers Posted February 23 Posted February 23 Nice showing for Anora Worth noting that acting categories include both actor/actress.
Blade Runner Posted February 23 Posted February 23 I LOVED Anora, but I really thought this was The Brutalist season. What happened, divas?
DanyelP23 Posted February 23 Posted February 23 If Cillian Murphy could be convinced not to present Best Actress, and the Academy wanted to be extra messy, they should get Gwynth Paltrow to present the award Brazilian twitter would be either in shambles, or thinking it must mean Torres is going to win 3
ATRL Moderator supaspaz Posted February 23 ATRL Moderator Posted February 23 Is anyone else here an Indie Spirit voter? I joined about five years ago so I could start voting. I did pick Anora for feature, but I otherwise like to spread the love and most of my favorites did not win. I was really hoping Ghostlight would win the Cassavetes Award. I’m such a fan.

They keep telling us that the Academy is getting more snobbish and yet the real arty movies never take it over the finish line. Poor The Power of the Dog. 2

Poor The Power of the Dog. You're right, but bar CODA I think the 2020's BP winners have been really good movies. Plus, Parasite, Birdman, Moonlight, and 12YAS from the decade before. 1
fridayteenage Posted February 23 Posted February 23 (edited) Anora better meta score than the previous 4 winners (And brutalist, slightly) A female led 90+ score winner, we love to see it Edited February 23 by fridayteenage
MAXIMO Posted February 23 Posted February 23 Oscars better spread the wealth and not just give Baker 3 or 4 oscars. Brady must win Director and hopefully Fargeat in Screenplay.

Though Roma losing to Green Book would be another data point for this. 2
Donquizote Posted February 23 Posted February 23 Love Boyhood, but if you took that 12 years filming gimmick, it's just another indie movie from Linklater.

Achilles. Posted February 23 Posted February 23 This dumpster fire season really has taken a turn for the worse. Do you know how bad things have to be that supporting actor is shaping up to be my favorite above the line win? Like, that's the least important and most unnoteworthy category of them all and this year it may very well be the only top 8 win I actually like. (I do like Zoe Saldana and it's nice to see her win and I didn't even hate Emilia Perez like that, but mostly I'm just relieved that she's blocking the pop star). I am a big Oscar completist so I've seen most winners in most categories and there isn't a single time in the entire history of the academy that Supporting Actor has been my favorite above the line win. First time for everything I guess. If SAG doesn't come through for Demi tomorrow, I'm gonna have to pray for a hail mary from Brazil. 1 1 1
Almodusa Posted February 23 Author Posted February 23 So just as a reminder: There's no performances of the Original Song nominees, just clips about the songwriters, and the previous acting winners coming to present each nominee was scrapped, correct?
hausofdave Posted February 23 Posted February 23 If Mikey was able to win in a gender-neutral category of ten nominees, then the support is 100% there
