Have you all seen Red Rocket? It was probably research.

I don't think most people actually hate it, it's an enjoyable movie. It maybe drags a little bit in the middle, it isn't in my Top 5 in the Best Picture field and I don't want Madison to win over Moore or Torres (or Erivo). Which automatically makes me a "hater" in the online discussion context :deadbanana:

Was there any film that got a box office boost from its Oscar nom(s)?

I don't think Moore will easily win SAG.

Sometime they dont care about narrative.

So far I think SAG is between Madison, Moore, and Erivo.

films never get boost from Oscar noms because nobody knows about them except us who follow awards season closely. Oscar night and it's audience rating + coverage in news cycle + viral clips on social media are what might boost box office. but even then it's only for 'best picture' and  rarely significant compared to pre-streaming days.

not this almost-year-old news :deadbanana4: this exposé happened right after Anora debuted in Cannes last year :deadbanana4:

Since the date change (2000) only 2 BAFTA losers have won the Oscar: Lawrence and Yeoh. the two BAFTA winners that lost (Riva and Blanchett), lost the Oscar to women in stronger films (Silver Linings & EEAAO)

Now I'm afraid that a film like The Substance can turn off a lot of voters

I liked the film (it had everything comedy, drama, horror) and I'm rooting for Demi to win but that last part of the film was a little too much. I had to turn my head a couple of times

By the way Margaret was robbed from a nomination

One of my favorite parts was when Sue was dragging Elisabeth at that talk show  and her reaction when she was cooking and watching her in that interview :lmao:

Oscar nominations in itself are a huge topic and they usually get covered all over the world by media outlets.

My SAG prediction (NGNG):

Actor: Ralph Fiennes

Actress: Cynthia Erivo

Supporting Actor: Kieran Culkin

Supporting Actress: Monica Barbaro

Ensemble: Anora

I know this prediction won't happen to certain categories, but why not.

I want chaos :suburban:

I'll start watching The Brutalist tomorrow but I will do it in 2 or 3 parts because it's so long :skull:

I plan on watching it in 2 parts, I don't know if intermission appears in digital version? I would stop where they stopped in cinemas.

I'm still in shock at how Mikey Madison has managed to get back on track. I remember her being like a 100% favorite few months ago only to get completely forgotten once Demi started winning. And now... oh wow.
