Donquizote Posted February 16 Posted February 16 Seems like American and international voters love Madison's performance. She's coming for Oscar next.
hausofdave Posted February 16 Posted February 16 in the event Conclave wins SAG Ensemble, it creates some debate with Oscars Best Picture. SAG Ensemble and BAFTA Best Film would be the same package as Shakespeare in Love, the last film to win Picture with BAFTA and no PGA.
Donquizote Posted February 16 Posted February 16 This will be another year that I think performance will triumph narrative.

Except Shakespeare in Love had the devil pulling the strings of the Academy
X~MoviePoP Posted February 16 Posted February 16 I need mikey and demi to split votes so fernanda can win 1
hausofdave Posted February 16 Posted February 16 Mikey Madison winning the SAG and Oscar would be so Substance coded 1 2
kimberly Posted February 16 Posted February 16 I hate people boiling Demi's PERFORMANCE down to "narrative" because while it helps that she has narrative and gave an impeccable speech at Golden Globes, she also delivers one of the best performances of the year. 1 8
Dark Miracles Posted February 16 Posted February 16 Part of me feels BAFTA just does this nowadays to flex the overlap in its voters with AMPAS and underline how much they can influence the nominees and winners, and not to "do their own thing" Cuz wdym Substance gets 5 nominations here, WINS Makeup which basically goes hand in hand with the lead performance, Demi is on a very strong run cleaning up GG and CC yet loses Actress here to Mikey whose film underperforms tonight only winning Casting despite it being a frontrunner for Best Picture
Donquizote Posted February 16 Posted February 16 Another factor that people need to consider is The Substance is a body horror movie that will turn off some voters. They may not watch that movie and vote for Cynthia, Mikey or Torres.

A very decent performance for the half of the film she occupies 2

hausofdave Posted February 16 Posted February 16 Anora also did better than Everything, it won an acting BAFTA; it's is either pulling an EEAAO or Nomadland

CaptainMusic Posted February 16 Posted February 16 SAG: If Mikey wins the race is over. If Cynthia wins then Mikey wins the Oscar. If Demi wins then it's a 50/50 race, even if SAG is after voting. 2

Antisocialites Posted February 16 Posted February 16 I live for Demi Moore and I would be happy to see her win but Mikey taking an Oscar would be just insane (and highly deserved) this is for you Max from Better Things. 1

Demi got hoe'd by BAFTA here for no reason. Anora underperformed here tonight, they just want to initiate and flex another Colman-esque leapfrog Edited February 16 by Dark Miracles
reymiu Posted February 16 Posted February 16 Oscar winner Mikey Madison Who would have predicted this last year ?
kimberly Posted February 16 Posted February 16 3 minutes ago, CaptainMusic said: If Demi wins then it's a 50/50 race, even if SAG is after voting. I'd say if Demi wins SAG her odds at the Oscar will be somewhere in the 66-75% range. not unbeatable, but would look very good for her. 1 minute ago, Dark Miracles said: I'm already worried. OnlyManInTheWorld Posted February 16 Posted February 16 Indeed, Mikey winning the Oscar would be insane. She was a shoe-in before the Globes. Then everyone wrote her off after Demi's speech. I'm shocked she's back in the game. I wouldn't call it a Close-Colman situation though. "The Substance" is not "The Wife". The latter received zero noms besides Best Actress. Everyone watched "The Substance", same with "Anora". The race is still open. 1 1
fridayteenage Posted February 16 Posted February 16 Globe VS. Bafta this century 2020 - bafta won (mcdormand) over globe (day) 2012 - globe won (lawrence) over bafta (riva) 2009 - globe won (bullock) over bafta (mulligan) 2004 - globe won (swank) over bafta (staunton) However, of the 3 times it was globe over bafta, it was american over european. when it was american vs. american, they went with the bafta winner in the bp frontrunner.
hausofdave Posted February 16 Posted February 16 I don't think Mikey will win SAG but it doesn't really matter imo, BAFTA + strength of BP winner is enough for the Oscar
