Nickel Boys was such a sad movie, America systematic racism history continues to amaze me. I'm surprised the film missed both Best Director and Cinematography because the first person POV was very unique.  Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor gave a better supporting performance than most of this year nominees

She was very underutilized but is far more deserving than Rossellini who does nothing of note in Conclave to even get nominated.

I can appreciate incredibly short nominated or winning performances if they provide the goods like Beatrice Straight in Network which Rossellini is nowhere near in Conclave. A cute career nomination though.

Today I saw Conclave and I really liked it (I'm rooting for Ralph Fiennes to pull a Sir. Anthony Hopkins and snatch the BAFTA / Oscar)

But as others have said I didn't really get Isabella Rossellini's nomination for this role. The whole movie I was expecting her to do something :skull:

11x winner. funnily enough, she lost for her oscar nominated Little Women turn cuz they preferred jessie buckley.

...for nickel boys, i thought it would only get in  a few categories since the same novelist's the underground railroad did as well at the emmys despite similarly rave reviews.

Fiennes just won Irish Academy, AACTA, and London Critics.

If he won BAFTA, I think he's frontrunner to win Oscar.

He's overdue for Oscar win and he's a respected veteran.

Please movie GOD makes it happen :superman:

I fear the acting categories have been sewn up since the Globes and it's not changing.

idk. I actually think after Brody, Fiennes has the best chance at winning the Oscar. I wouldn't be surprised if he upsets (I actually think he might win at the BAFTAs). We'll see what happens.

Demi seems like the winner at this point, still Torres could be dark horse (I can't stand it). I really hate the nominations in this category, it should've been: Demi, Fernanda, Pamela, Angelina or Marianne, and Madison. I really don't get the hype around Wicked, but ok...

I really hope Isabella upsets, it is actually a REAL supporting role, and not some category fraud like we have going with Zoe and Ariana. They are definitely co-leads. However, we all know that Zoe is going to win.

Idc for best supporting actor this year, though I wouldn't mind seeing Guy Pearce win, but obviously not happening.

Felicity Jones & Monica Barbaro are literally right there with more impressive supporting performances though.

Brokeback is the only film to win DGA, PGA, and WGA and then lose Best Picture

Posted

Brokeback also lost to the worst BP ever.

Won't be shocking if EP won BP :suburban:

Anorallah keeps winning. The Academy really said NO to Corbet and his pompous attitude and overstuffed film. Hopefully this Brutalist reverse momentum affects Brody too and literally anyone else wins.
