I don't wanna get my hopes up. 1
Hector Posted February 12 Posted February 12 Just now, KylieistBoi said: Would a Ralph Fiennes AACTA & BAFTA combo lead to the Oscar win? I don't wanna get my hopes up. Ditto, but for Guy Pearce. I want an ACTUAL (and better) supporting performance to win than Kieran Culkin just playing himself in the worst category fraud of the season. 2
fridayteenage Posted February 12 Posted February 12 aacta since 2012 nicole won for: Lion, Boy Erased, Being the Ricardos, Babygirl. Cate won for: blue jasmine, carol, tar. margot won for: i tonya, bombshell, barbie. so cate her oscar noms, margot her oscar noms + the shocking snub, nicole for her oscar noms + some extra ones she was sort of in contention for. 2

Almodusa Posted February 12 Author Posted February 12 Just saw Anora. Wow Mikey With that said, how the hell did that guy get a supporting nom. He was fine but… Oscar nomination? He had more moments in the end that did feel impactful, sure, but like…? Spoiler Really somber way to end the film with her crying and then complete silence in the credits. Yeah I really enjoyed that. 3
Hector Posted February 12 Posted February 12 (edited) We now have a new front-runner for the Visual Effects Oscar. Dune: Part Two may have won the Critics' Choice Award for Visual Effects but the Visual Effects Society Award (Oscar precursor) for Outstanding Visual Effects In A Photoreal Feature goes to: I guess we just have to see what BAFTA says. I really liked these wins as well: Edited February 12 by Hector

Reveal hidden contents Really somber way to end the film with her crying and then complete silence in the credits. Yeah I really enjoyed that. I see your point but I think he deserves it. The screwball comedy that is the second act really wouldn't work him without his subtle performance on the sidelines. As for Mikey, now that I've seen more of her in interviews she really acted DOWN in this role, because in real life she's super shy and timid. It's wild that she was able to create that character so successfully. 3
kimberly Posted February 12 Posted February 12 I should rewatch Anora. maybe if I don't go in blindly expecting it to be the "movie of the year" (like I went in on opening weekend) I'll appreciate it more. still, unfortunately, it's either #5 or right outside my Top 5 in the BP field. but I say this as someone who genuinely loved 8 of the 10 BP films, including Anora. Spoiler My 2 that I don't love are Dune Part 2, which I enjoyed but do not find compelling, and Emilia Pérez, which I found somewhat entertaining for being campy until I realized it was meant to be a serious movie, and of course the remarks from its director and lead actress that soured it for me. 2
Kylizzle Posted February 12 Posted February 12 It's still funny to me that people watched a Sean Baker movie and seemingly expected it to be an Oppenheimer-sized epic or something rather than a depressing slice-of-life comedy drama. 4 1
Kylizzle Posted February 12 Posted February 12 JLC praising Anora and Mikey on her IG at the start of voting. DO VOTE ANORA!!! 2
hausofdave Posted February 12 Posted February 12 the previous two apes movies also won VES but lost Oscars. if Dune 2 loses BAFTA then yeah it's not getting the oscar win. 1

I was not expecting Oppenheimer (which I still haven't seen actually because it looks boring as **** lol) I was just expecting to fall in love with the movie and that clearly didn't happen. so I felt underwhelmed I think I could have loved Anora if it were the same rough idea, but written and directed by a woman

Donquizote Posted February 12 Posted February 12 It's over for Demi if Madison won BAFTA. I think BAFTA will once again decide Best Actress winner this year.
ctlp27 Posted February 12 Posted February 12 I tend to think that because most voters are American, US actresses would def be more welcome to reward Demi and the message behind the film, especially at the very core of Hollywood and the film industry. 1
Almodusa Posted February 12 Author Posted February 12 The way I still have 41 films (14 of them being shorts) to watch
