PGA hates Netflix more than Kendrick hates Drake, which was before the controversy, safe to say the #10's allotment will be coming in bulk for Perez

the globes are the payola org, good for buying noms, but organic success matters too

You were inspired by the Abra threads lately I see

OT: I bet money on Anora winning this morning after the CCs win because I had a feeling and even put down more money before DGA. Here we go :agaycatabra:

i posted this a month back but can't find my post. anywho,

3+ Globes in the expanded era:
emilia Perez, brutalist

banshees
power of the dog, west side story
once upon a time in hollywood
green book – WIN

The Globe jinx. the 3 oscar winners were able to overcome that by snatching PGA.

first time since 2002 that CCA, GG, and DGA all had three different Director winners. None of them won the Oscar that year.

Wow Anora. This is crazy.

Deserved tho.

I'll be honest: Emilia Perez (I know everyone hates it) left me speechless. I was like: damn, what an experience. My favorite movie of 2024.

Same with The Substance.

I wasn't that impressed with Anora though. A cute 7/10.

Conclave was okay but too safe.

Then I watched The Brutalist. Dear lord, it made me fall asleep and definitely appreciate Anora more.

Anora, the QUEEN that you are...

I need Mikey to win SAG. She needs to be 'carried' to  a WIN along the movie itself at the Oscars. BP+BA+BOS/BD

PGA is a massive win. Didn't really think of Anora as the type of movie to win BP but considering a few weeks ago it was looking to be EP.. what a massive UPGRADE dear god

I guess we will see what happens with SAG and BAFTA i guess. BAFTAs in recent years haven't been the best for predicting stuff, both in terms of wins and noms

PGA and DGA but lost Picture:

1995 - Apollo 13 (Braveheart)

1998 - Saving Private Ryan (Shakespeare in Love)

2005 - Brokeback Mountain (Crash)

2013* - Gravity (12 years a Slave)
*PGA was tied b/t the two

2016 - La La Land (beat and then lost to Moonlight)

2019 - 1917 (Parasite)

2015 is also notable for being the only time they picked two different movies and were both wrong. DGA went The Revenant and PGA - The Big Short while the Oscar went to Spotlight

Willing to sacrifice Demi Moore's Oscar if the Brazilians come through to snatch Best Picture along with it.
