corotinho Posted February 8 Posted February 8 I kinda feel like this over the top cancel against Karla won't kill Emilia Perez this much. Everything that goes hard, gets back hard too. I think the only main category it lost all the chances was Best Picture.
hausofdave Posted February 8 Posted February 8 "Here's how Ariana can still win" is gonna become the new "Here's how Carey Mulligan can still win" 7
Green Posted February 8 Posted February 8 1 hour ago, hausofdave said: "Here's how Ariana can still win" is gonna become the new "Here's how Carey Mulligan can still win" Carey Mulligan still had a chance to win at the moment of the Oscars though unlike Ariana (unless she wins SAG and other actress besides Zoe wins BAFTA) That year there was like 4 different winners in the televised awards GG: Andra Day Critics: Carey Mulligan SAG: Viola Davis BAFTA: Frances McDormand 1 1
DanyelP23 Posted February 8 Posted February 8 Bafta is the only award where speeches matter. SAG winners are revealed after voting for Oscars ends. But it will tell us where the acting body might lean towards 1
Dark Miracles Posted February 8 Posted February 8 Gah I'm just not comfortable thinking Demi has this in the bag until she is quite literally called as the winner. She is attempting something that hasn't been done before, and doing it immaculately so far, but her biggest competition is still the lead of the Best Picture frontrunner AND Madison's role has a similar profile to last year's winner. As we know AMPAS is also much more tempted to give Lead Actress to someone younger compared to Lead Actor. I REALLY hope Demi can pull it off but I would like Anora to not win Best Picture at the next precursors so it loses some steam
NoAngelus Posted February 8 Posted February 8 I can't believe Demi is so close to getting it, I also can't believe not only she managed to maintain the hype from the movie premiere but she built on it. She doesn't have great filmography and I can't say she earned it on the back of it, but I'm happy for her and I'm rooting for her. Shame Margaret is hut out from race, she should've been nominated too. 1

Fernanda Torres feels like the more probable upset here. 2

kimberly Posted February 8 Posted February 8 Just now, KylieistBoi said: She is though. The race is between Moore and Madison, no matter the narratives people try to make for other nominees. is she? Madison has no wins so far (despite being the "frontrunner" for GG and CCA) while Torres was able to give a GG speech and campaign her movie all the way into an unexpected Best Picture nomination, surging at the perfect time. Torres feels more likely to me because she's the GG Drama winner, and the only traditional "Drama" nomination. For voters looking for something more "serious" — she could be the vote. Plus, the strong international voter body, those who are loving Emilia Pérez, may also vote for Torres instead of KSG in Best Actress. the funny thing is BAFTA and SAG will both likely go to Demi Moore, but the likeliest spoilers — Marianne Jean-Baptiste and Cynthia Erivo, respectively — are not nominated at the Oscars or not win-competitive. Fernanda Torres isn't even nominated at either award show. so we won't really know much until the Oscars envelope is opened, and unless Torres or Madison pull it off, we'll never find out who the runner-up was.
KylieistBoi Posted February 8 Posted February 8 8 minutes ago, kimberly said: is she? Yes. Unlike the other nominees' films in that category Anora is still win competitive in the BP race, so people are actually going to watch her movie. She also fits the profile of a Lead Actress winner more than the other contenders (ingenue in a star making role). 2

Madison is actively losing these awards to Moore, and will likely continue to lose at BAFTA and SAG. Torres didn't get nominated for these awards, surging later in the season with an international film not many people had seen, so we're not seeing her full potential captured here. 1 2

NoAngelus Posted February 8 Posted February 8 Guys I have bad and embarrassing news: I lowkey enjoyed Emilia damn Perez. Selena on the other hand was the worst thing about the movie for me, I am shocked at how bad she was. Like genuinely shocked. And I do watch OMITB and already knew she couldn't act. 2
Life Savers Posted February 8 Posted February 8 (edited) I think Demi has it mostly locked down. Mikey could have won CCA and put up a fight but Demi's GG speech came right before voting closed for that show. SAG is 100% Demi's, which gave Lily a bonafide chance last year that still wasn't enough. She just has the perfect narrative. I personally don't mind because it is partially a career award but her performance is also great and in a genre overlooked by the academy. BP is still wide open though. All films except Nickel Boys, Dune and I'm Still Here have a believable chance. Edited February 8 by Life Savers 2
