Donquizote Posted February 3 Posted February 3 Video of 19 year old Demi kissing 15 year old boy is going viral on twitter. What's going on with this Oscar season? 3

That Situation happened during the oscars and took everyone by suprise. The ksg thing is happening a month before the oscars. She shouldnt go or be allowed to go. The things the oscars have accepted in the past no longer pertain to the future oscars. Ksg is racist, xenophobic, classist and a nazi apologist. She even disrespected the oscars. She needs to be held accountable and be banned. I get where you're coming from about timing being different, but here's the thing - it's not really about comparing specific incidents. It's about the Academy picking and choosing when to take a stand. Should KSG face consequences for harmful statements? Absolutely. But the Academy needs to be clear about their standards and apply them fairly across the board, not just when it's convenient or when there's public pressure. So banning for statements, while allowing all others? How is that fair? If they're raising the bar for acceptable behavior (which honestly might be overdue), great - but they should say that directly and apply it to everyone, not just selectively. 4

LMAO no1 (as in, someone who can vote for The Academy) cares about that. It was 43 years ago, and she was 19. There are other reasons she might not win, this isn't one of them. Day by day I can see Torres snatch the statuette on Oscar night. 2
Scars Posted February 3 Posted February 3 Indiewire: Fernanda Torres and Sebastian Stan Join Ariana Grande, Karla Sofía Gascón, and More at Santa Barbara Tribute — Exclusive Quote They will join panelists Karla Sofía Gascón and Selena Gomez ("Emilia Pérez"), Harris Dickinson ("Babygirl"), Ariana Grande ("Wicked"), Clarence Maclin ("Sing Sing"), Mikey Madison ("Anora"), and John Magaro ("September 5"). The festival may not have foreseen that Torres might be rubbing shoulders with rival Oscar nominee Gascón in the wake of her recent scandal. Netflix may opt not to send Gascón. (Netflix had no response at press time.) https://www.indiewire.com/news/festivals/fernanda-torres-sebastian-stan-join-santa-barbara-virtuosos-panel-1235091269/ Mess. It'll be interesting to see how Netflix will handle all of this. KSG not attending the rest of the award cerimonies from now on would be the best outcome for everyone involved, but I can see her still showing up even if her PR team tell her not to.

Donquizote Posted February 3 Posted February 3 We also thought Torres would be the first Globe Drama winner to get snubbed. While stat is meant to be broken, some stats will remain unbreakable. Goodluck winning that Oscar without SAG nomination.
Triton Posted February 4 Posted February 4 The backlash to revoke and disqualify the first trans actress would be bigger. The Oscars are already so uppity. Not defending KSG but the award is for the performance in the film, not her behavior throughout the voting period. It's ridiculous that is under so much scrutiny. Plus it was past comments, this is where art and personal life should be distinct. If that was the case why didn't Brads behavior towards his kids matter? Casey Affleck? Just don't vote for her if it affects you so much and keep it moving. Plus it's not like she's a solid frontrunner to win. 1 1

DanyelP23 Posted February 4 Posted February 4 KSG should not be disqualified or prevented to attend the Oscars. If The Academy clapped and awarded Roman Polanski, and celebrated others like Clint Eastwood, they should at least remain consistent. Apparently Netflix will stop paying for transportation and other promo costs for Karla, and she is set to NOT attend certain precursors or industry events. I can't help but think of how her trans status, and the current political sentiments stirred against trans people by the current government plays a role into this. Sure, she is awful, but there are awful-er people out there who don't go through this. 6

hausofdave Posted February 4 Posted February 4 Quote And it is my understanding that there is no great interest on the part of Netflix to provide the usual courtesies afforded by a studio to an Oscar contender, such as transportation and accommodations, to facilitate her attendance at the remaining award season gatherings. it turns out Gascón will make history at the Oscars. The first actress nominated for an Oscar to use an uber 9

Past poor decisions on the academy's part shouldn't mean we continue to let this kind of behaiour slide. Why not call on the academy to take a stand now and moving forward. Why are we using past stupid decisions determine how we act in future?? KSG should be reprimanded now so it sets an example for everyone going forward... Idk why you're excusing this because the academy didn't do anything in the past as well? so what? 1

Idk why you're excusing this because the academy didn't do anything in the past as well? so what? Let's be honest. This conversation wouldn't even be here if she just went with the first PR statement or had made a better one in the beginning. Besides the optics are not good to rescind the nomination of the first trans woman in Best Actress. Also, they would never add whoever came #6 to the lineup even if Karla was taken out. People can call on The Academy all they want, but they'd have to do that from now on with every possible person in contention BEFORE they are even nominated. How would that logistically work? I also hold blame on Netflix for not doing a thorough social media check for their stars, especially the ones unknown to the US market. Them dropping Karla is more to do with her continuing idiotic statements after the first one. The fact they couldn't get her to stick to a solid PR plan is embarrassing for them. 1

OnlyManInTheWorld Posted February 4 Posted February 4 Zoe Saldana deserves to win the Oscar. They better not do her dirty 3

kimberly Posted February 4 Posted February 4 Emilia Pérez realistically should have been the kind of movie that gets 3-5 nominations, 0 wins. Karla Sofía Gascon was never even close to winning but at least we can be grateful that she's potentially bringing an end to the self-righteous EP parade. She's a one-woman army taking down Netflix's best chance yet at a BP win. an ally to the art of filmmaking, really. 3
